I backed Chompy's Wolf's to beat Posh bet for (I think £50) and split the winnings on two bets for this weekend tipped here, Barnsley to win again and Brighton to beat Brum. Tonight I got an email, not been limited, just account closed, those two bets will stand and be paid back to my registered card if they win, I had no other money on there. I bet quite a lot of NBA with Bet Victor last year but as Fred can testify I wouldn't think it was that profitbale, tho it was in positive probably by under a grand.

I replied asking why and saying I didn't think I'd been getting the lot but I can't even look at my own account history now, the just copy and pasted their t's & c's which say they can refuse a bet whenever they want.

Not sure if there's a Fred-related reason for this? Those adverts are really tilting now I can't even bet with them

(Also in reply to bazzaboy).

Very sorry to hear that.

Fred-related? Maybe, but over 8 months, the Fred account has LOST £273.59 with BetVictor, so unlikely, imo.

I missed Chompy's Wolves bet, maybe that helped?

Slightly worryingly, we have two bets with BetVictor for this Saturday, one is £100 @ 11/10, the other £50 @ 17/10, both of which were "Best Price" when placed. I shall have to keep an eye on my e-Mails if they both win.

I'm not sure how the big, winning, punters survive, if every winning account gets shut, it must be a nightmare to work round.

The Fred account has made a cumulative £946 over 8 months, spread around 19 bookies, so we are not exactly bashing up the bookies. Only one account - Bet365 - is effectively closed, being "Severely Restricted". Now & then I get "knocked back" when placing bets, but only for that bet, there have been no other accounts closed or restricted that I am aware.

Our three biggest winning accounts are for £618, £462, & £357. Our three biggest losing accounts are for £528, £277, & £273. In achieving those numbers, we have wagered a total of £27,375.50

We spread the bets around different bookies, & where two or more identical "Best Prices" are available, I try to use the account that is losing most money. Maybe that helps us?

By definition, I suppose, if Fred were very successful, all our accounts would get closed.

Perhaps they have me down as one of these.

How weird was it?

I found this report of this morning's Seattle - Green Bay affair online.......

SEATTLE -- How weird was it?

The Seattle Seahawks' 14-12 victory over the Green Bay Packers was so weird, half the team was in the locker room with their pads off when they were told to go back on the field and kick the NFL-mandated extra point.

The Seattle Seahawks' 14-12 victory over the Green Bay Packers was so weird, a rookie third-round quarterback who was 5 of 10 for 69 yards through three quarters managed to make himself a hero with no chances left on the board.

The Seattle Seahawks' 14-12 victory over the Green Bay Packers was so weird, one receiver told another to take a lie detector test.

And the Seattle Seahawks' 14-12 victory over the Green Bay Packers was so weird, there were almost more penalties than points -- and a replacement crew managed to outdo all other replacement crews when it came to questionable, buffoonish, and outright dastardly calls on both sides.

A game that started with eight Seahawks sacks on the first half turned into an entirely different contest when all was said and done. Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers wasn't sacked once in the second half, as the Packers went to a more multiple series of tight end sets and quick passes. Meanwhile, Seahawks rookie quarterback Russell Wilson didn't attempt a single pass in the third quarter, and the Packers came within one point, 7-6, as the fourth quarter began.

And that's when all hell broke loose. With 8:53 left in the game, Packers running back Cedric Benson put the Pack ahead, 12-7 with a one-yard touchdown run. The Seahawks then engineered a drive that took them down to Green Bay's seven-yard line, but had to turn the ball over on downs when receiver Golden Tate couldn't bring in a pass in the end zone. But Seattle's defense held firm as it had through most of the day, the Seahawks got the ball back with 46 seconds left, and they had 46 yards to go.

After a 22-yard pass to receiver Sidney Rice, Wilson threw three straight incompletion, and it all came down to fourth down. Wilson ran around for a while and targeted a scrum waiting for the jump ball in the end zone. Packers safety M.D. Jennings appeared to grab the ball in the air and kept control even after Tate fought him for it. Nobody seemed to see that Tate pushed defensive back Sam Shields out of the way in a blatant example of offensive pass interference.

However ... well, we'll let head official Wayne Elliott explain.

"The ruling on the final play was a simultaneous catch," he told the game's pool reporters. "Reviewed by replay. Play stands. [A catch by] both players goes to the offense."

In a murderous bit of irony, the officiating supervisor was Phil Luckett, the man who decided that New York Jets quarterback Vinny Testaverde's helmet crossing the plane of the end zone was an acceptable alternative to the ball doing so in a 32-31 win over the Seahawks in 1998. The Seattle loss kept the Seahawks out of the playoffs, led to the firing of then-head coach Dennis Erickson, and led to the re-instatement of instant replay.

It was Luckett who monitored the officiating throughout this game.

"We both had it," Tate said when he was asked whether he caught the ball. "I don't know what the rule is, but I think the tie goes to the receiver. I ran my route on the back side, WIlson came back and wanted to give me one more chance after I dropped the first one, and I just competed. I've practices catching balls at the highest point, and thankfully, I came down with it."

And then, after all that, as several Seahawks players were taking their shoulder pads off, they were told by coaches and managers in the locker room that they had to go out and kick that league-mandated point after touchdown. Receiver Sidney Rice went out in his football pants, and undershirt, and no shoes. Guard John Moffit had to throw his pads back on before he even knew what was happening.

"It was required by league rule," Luckett said of the PAT. "The point after touchdown is an extension of the game, so we have to finish the game. A touchdown on the last play, you have to do the extra point, in regulation."

Understandably, the Packers had a very different response to the concept of fair and correct officiating.

Understandably, the Packers had a very different response to the concept of fair and correct officiating.

"Fine me and use the money to pay the regular refs," Green Bay guard T.J. Lang said on his Twitter account after posting some rather NSFW stuff about his take on the game.

"Come on @NFL this [bleep] is getting out of Control. Caused us a DAMN game. Horrible!" Packers tight end Jermichael Finley tweeted.

And this, from the Twitter account of Packers guard Josh Sitton "Golden Tate is full of [bleep] too. Saying he clearly caught that is embarrassing! [Bleeping] jokers!"

Rodgers, who could be given full credit for even remembering what happened after the way he was beaten up in the first half, was as disgusted as he could possibly be.

Packers receiver Greg Jennings had more to say. "If you asked Golden Tate to take a lie detector test, and ask him did he catch that call or did M.D. Jennings catch the ball, M.D. caught that. It was clear as day -- at least that's what my eyes saw."

Finally, Jennings mustered up as much sarcasm as he possibly could, and said, "The officials did a great job today."

M.D. Jennings, the man who certainly appeared to come down with the ball, simply said that he had possession of the ball all the way down, that Tate was fighting for the ball as he had possession, and that he never lost possession to Tate. All of these things appear to be correct based on a cursory review of the replays. That Wayne Elliott's crew couldn't figure it out even after watching the tape? Well, let's just say that we've all been wondering what would happen if the officials swing a game in which the wrong team won, and we may very possible have that scenario in hand at this time.

Even Seattle head coach Pete Carroll, the man who most benefitted from the final call, and certainly appeared to be the most happy about it, said after the game that the real officials need to come back.

"It's time for it to be over," he said. "It's time foe this to be over. My hat's off to those officials; they're doing everything they can as well as they can. They're working their tails off. It demonstrates how difficult it is. it's a very, very complicated process to handle those games and make those decisions. To keep the flow of the game alive and all that, it's time for it to be over.

"The league deserves it. Everybody deserves it."

The Packers would not likely agree with anything else that came out of Carroll's mouth after the game, but they'd certainly be on board with that.

Weekend rugby league St Helens v Warrington.

Yet again I find myself at odds with the oddsmakers. Either they are all muppets or I am bozo the clown, and I have a horrible feeling that I  must have very large feet.

2 weeks ago St Helens won  28-6  away at Warrington. They didn't just win the game they dominated every aspect of it. As a reward they earned a week off, and now get home advantage. The game plan will be to keep the game physical and to dominate Warrington up front where they will be missing Ben Westwood and probably Carvell too. Warrington have not looked fluent since before the cup final and there is no reason to suppose that they will suddenly find their best form, especially without key players.

By my reckoning St Helens should be priced at about 4-5 or maybe 4-6 yet all the bookies so far have them at odds against. As more price the game up I can see the price flip flopping ( how about that for a betting term ) so I am putting this up earlier than usual.

Recommend £35 win St Helens @ 6-5 Boylesport. I will suggest £5 on the draw later in the week as I think someone will offer 20-1 instead of the 18's available now.

Thank you 10-2.

I'd need some other views on that.

My gut reaction is that psychology is the key here.

It must be jolly hard for Rangers to motivate themselves in the lower league stuff, & their oppos are always up for it, beating the Big Boy & all that.

Suddenly, Rangers are back in Big Boys Town, & will be busting to show them they are still Big Boys.

Having said all that, I have absolutely zero knowledge of the football scene in Scotland, I'm just going by some obscure beliefs I hold which are not really football related.

If we get any warmth for your suggestion, we will get on, deffo.

Thanks again.

It was the philosopher Seneca who said " I know full well what may happen, but I do not know what will happen".

So if it wins I get to eat my cake, which I have already baked myself, and if it loses everyone gets to call me Bozo and laugh at me. I don't see what is in it for me, it seems a tad lob-sided. I think if it wins some Blonde's wives should be tasked to bake cakes and bring them to me.

p.s I don't like coffee or ginger cake.

OK, tell you what - post a picture of the Victory Cake, & we'll call it quits.

I shall have to leave discussion of the merits of Seneca (Seneca the Younger, I believe) to our more erudite members, as I know nothing of him apart from what google & Wiki have just made me aware.

I'm quite sure comment from my wiser friends on Seneca will follow in due course, 4/5 Tal is first, 5/2 Doobs or Tighty, 9/2 Methuselah Minor, 100/1 Chompy.

I can tell you that Seneca's bust though - here's the proof.

T20WC Daily

Much already covered, but of course Ireland were knocked out when the rains came. This probably saved us £52 in losing bets, so those are the breaks

The frustrating thing for them is that if they had kept Australia in the field for three balls more in their loss to them, they would have gone through not the West Indies

Today, Pakistan v Bangladesh, with Bangladesh needing a heavy win to prevent Pakistan from taking the last Super Eight spot

http://www.oddschecker.com/cricket/international/twenty20-world-cup/bangladesh-v-pakistan

Obviously the ICC knew that rain might be a problem in Sri Lanka, but schedules are crowded, and Sri Lanka cricket desperately needs the cash

The rainy season is now until December, which is why test cricket in Sri Lanka is played January-March.

Expect more interrupted play, and we need to factor that in

This must be the only betting thread on earth which produces average rainfall charts from faraway lands.

Long may it last.

I'm not sure whether to answer or to plough into TightEnd at 5/2

Wink

Classics aren't my area of expertise, although I've studied a little Roman Law in my time.

Seneca was a Stoic, although Chryssippus was more probably famous for it.

The Quarterback Seneca Wallace remains the only sportsman I can think of to be named after this particular Roman Philosopher, dramatist and humourist.

The American Seneca was born in Sacramento, so just goes to show how far Seneca the Younger (as the Seneca we refer to was, dad was Seneca the elder) reached.

In the Seneca stakes, the jolly won by 10 minutes, though the runner-up gets the prize for ironic humour.

Meanwhile, Chompy, the 100/1 shot, is still musing on whether Tuesday is wheelie bin day & whether to take a chance & wheel his bin out to the front field garden.

Just did a bit of research while the systems are down at work. Turns out young Mr Seneca taught Nero, although was accused of plotting to kill him later.

Between Nero issues, he wrote a huge treatise on the weather, which brings us neatly back on brief. I've just read a bit of the translation and he speculates as to whether a rainbow is caused by the different surfaces of the water in rain. Close enough.

He does also discuss whether lightning is spontaneous combustion in the air, mind...
