Just did a bit of research while the systems are down at work. Turns out young Mr Seneca taught Nero, although was accused of plotting to kill him later.

Between Nero issues, he wrote a huge treatise on the weather, which brings us neatly back on brief. I've just read a bit of the translation and he speculates as to whether a rainbow is caused by the different surfaces of the water in rain. Close enough.

He does also discuss whether lightning is spontaneous combustion in the air, mind...

If he were alive today, & Posting on forums, he'd be called a twat for saying that......

Monday is wheelie bin day around these parts, thought everyone knew that! As Seneca himself once sayed: "I know which day the dustmen come, I only may know where they'll leave the wheelie once it's emptied." Wise words indeed.

I backed Chompy's Wolf's to beat Posh bet for (I think £50) and split the winnings on two bets for this weekend tipped here, Barnsley to win again and Brighton to beat Brum. Tonight I got an email, not been limited, just account closed, those two bets will stand and be paid back to my registered card if they win, I had no other money on there. I bet quite a lot of NBA with Bet Victor last year but as Fred can testify I wouldn't think it was that profitbale, tho it was in positive probably by under a grand.

I replied asking why and saying I didn't think I'd been getting the lot but I can't even look at my own account history now, the just copy and pasted their t's & c's which say they can refuse a bet whenever they want.

Not sure if there's a Fred-related reason for this? Those adverts are really tilting now I can't even bet with them

VC are an utter joke at the moment. Strikes me they're having a cull and they shouldn't be allowed to get away with it without comment.

As for this fred thread being the cause of account closures I wouldn't be surprised. All sorts of weirds and wonderfuls read this.

I've popped up the chat box on the website a few times out of frutration and every time they give the same tired line - 'It's a trading decision and they reserve the right to lay any bet they want'.

What were his views on clowns ?

Well, he was a stoic, so relatively nonplussed

Motherwell are currently 21/10 at Betfred away at Rangers tomorrow night , Motherwell are unbeaten in 7 and sit top of the premier Rangers are 2nd in div 3 also unbeaten but hardly having things there own way getting knocked out the ramsden cup on penalty's by queen of the south. Recommend £20 (subject to elders approval)

Thank you 10-2.

I'd need some other views on that.

My gut reaction is that psychology is the key here.

It must be jolly hard for Rangers to motivate themselves in the lower league stuff, & their oppos are always up for it, beating the Big Boy & all that.

Suddenly, Rangers are back in Big Boys Town, & will be busting to show them they are still Big Boys.

Having said all that, I have absolutely zero knowledge of the football scene in Scotland, I'm just going by some obscure beliefs I hold which are not really football related.

If we get any warmth for your suggestion, we will get on, deffo.

Thanks again.

As Seneca said

Consult your fred on all things, especially on those which respect yourself. His counsel may then be useful where your own self-love might impair your judgment.

A mixed weekend for me last weekend as Swansea and Wigan were both well beaten, but wins at decent prices for Tranmere and Palace saved my book, although Palace doing it the hard way from 0-2 down so rather fortunate.

Looking at the early prices this weekend, there are some outrageously short prices which are probably worth laying if you are so inclined but I am more of a backer so won’t be taking that option.  Has anyone ever seen Everton at 2/5 for premier league match?  And winless Liverpool are only 8/13 to win at Norwich.  I expect both to win, but think you’d have to be mad to back at those prices.

The first two bets of my weekend selection have already been identified by Fred – Brighton and Barnsley.  Both are excellent value imo.

Anyway, two further recommendations from me – both home teams which I think should be odds on:

Sunderland v Wigan

Sunderland’s purchase of Fletcher looks inspired as he has really brought a focal point to their attacks which was missing last year and has scored in all his games.  They have drawn all of their games so far, but have had a reasonably tough assignment – Arsenal away, Swansea away (before they went “bad”), Liverpool at home and West Ham away.  They probably deserved to beat Swansea and led West Ham till injury time.  I think they’ll definitely be earmarking this as the first victory to get the season up and running.  Wigan were pretty poor at home to Fulham in last week’s loss and won’t be looking forward to this trip.  The loss of Victor Moses to Chelsea has hit them hard as is to be expected.

Recommendation:  Sunderland to beat Wigan at 11/10

Tranmere v Brentford

The Tranmere juggernaut rolled on at Crawley last week, as they registered an impressive 5-2 win at a team I expect to finish top half.  Their league form now reads WWXWXWWW and yet they are still not odds on at home to an inconsistent Brentford.    I quite like Brentford this year – they looked pretty decent when losing at Leyton Orient, but they are reliant on home form so far where they have won their last 3 games.  On the road it is a different story, where they have yet to win despite an easyish looking set of trips to Bury, Walsall, Bournemouth and Leyton Orient.  A visit to Prenton Park seems an upgrade on that against a team that is absolutely flying and I can’t see them coming back down the motorway with anything.

Recommendation:  Tranmere to beat Brentford at evens

Yes - we don't much like all the shouty-wouty crowds.

However, if you refer to wagering, we have zilch, nada, zero so far, excepting a bet on the NEXT Ryder Cup Capitano.

I guess all the recommends will come flooding in on Friday morning.

The betting & poker worlds seem very similar in this respect - leave decisions as to get involved as late as possible. In betting, this is a double-edged sword, of course.

The Yanks definitely look the strongest on paper.

Our top half looks very solid, can the bottom half take the seriously strong gallery pressure?

I think much of the interest will be in individual match-ups, & we won't know them until the pairings are announced, so in this case, a last minute rush is perhaps to be expected.

Afternoon naps are under-rated, they are a paradox though - many of us get tired, & so need them, but I always wake up in a grumpy & tetchy mood.

Hope the shoulder is soon better.

Anyway, back on topic, there are zillions of Ryder Cup markets......

Seem to remember a Paul Lawrie bet of some sort awhile back. Probably a Hector bet.
