I know we should be looking for value spots wherever they are (says the man who proposed a bet on the Booker Prize, the Turner Prize and some woodpushers...), but watching the BDO in just about every respect makes me sad inside. The low budget element, the awful, awful walkons and the standard of darts in the early rounds.

I had the dubious pleasure of being there for the opening weekend last year.  When you walk in to the Lakeside it is like walking into a time warp.  At the start of each day they introduce every player that is in action this day and they come out one after the other with this playing  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8zzG4n8CpM  we all just looked at each other and thought wtf.  

Standard is very poor early doors and there were a lot of sub 80 averages as there is no depth there any more and also it's the only time of the year many of them play in from of a big crowd.  Waites, Kist, Harms and Bunting are capable of 95+ I don't think we will see too many others who manage it though.

Lakeside Darts

De Graaf @ 6/5

We have missed the best of the price but I think De Graaf should be favourite here. Dekker was woeful at the GSOD and averaged 76.43 over his 3 matches. He is also in the final year of his studies so not abje to devote enough time to his practise.  De Graaf is another young Dutchman who has had a decent year. As with a lot of players in the BDO you never quite know how they will perform on TV but the chances are he won't need to be anywhere near his best to win here. I'm not a BDO expert but i've seen enough warmth for De Graaf in other places to convince me he is way too big here. Recommend £50 @ 6/5 and a £10 on 3-0 at 7/1.

I got the £10 @ 7/1 for 3-0 with William Hill, but, incredibly, I initially tried to get it on with Stan James, & they restricted me to.......£7.10. !!

Update:

I know Fred didn't get involved but I'm aware of one person at least who took my advice and backed O'Driscoll for next BFC manager.

For anyone who did there's reason to feel encouraged this morning, although no official news is expected until next week.

Today's rugby is back at our friends Exeter who are at home to Northampton. This is a clash to get into the top four, thus get into the Heineken cup, and so it is a huge game for both sides. It is Northampton's better players against Exeter's team spirit with home advantage. I do fancy Exeter to win here but Northampton are a bit of a bogey team for them so if we factor in a heavy pitch then I like low points.

Suggest £25 under 38.5 points @ Coral, Laddies or Paddy.

We have been going for 11 months now, & God knows how given my bona-fide Ice Cream CV, but we have not lost a penny, in fact we have turned a very small profit.

And when I place that bet, it will be Fred's 1,000th bet.

Yeah that's the way it comes across on Tv, for 90% of the Players there they seem to be on a Jolly rather than take the Darts seriously enough tho I would rather goto Lakeside than the Ally Pally as that's now full of Chrimbo Party's with them more concerned who has a Plastic or Table Seat.

Should still be a few quid to be made here and I like your recommended bet, Dekker needs to up his game quite a bit from recent form and can see the prices slip flop before the off.

Bazza what do you think about De Graaf for the whole thing or as a possible back to lay in the quarter final? Should win comfortably tomorrow, only real threat in the quarter is Adams who has been pretty dodgy of late. I imagine he would meet Waites in the QF which would be a bit of an ask but if he wins that he wins the whole thing imo, we could also be in a position to lay him off and have a small freeroll on him by that stage. He is 65/1 atm.

I had planned to make the 1,000th bet (which of course Mere had noted & made me aware of), a "special" bet, maybe £100 or whatever.

As chance had it, it was hector, & I know he feels uncomfortable - rightly so, I fully understand - when we "over bet" his Nitty Tips.

There are folks who really dislike that sort of pressure, & I don't think we should make folks feel uncomfy. Unless it is Chompy, of course.

Initially 6/1, then subsequently 16/1 when the market made Flitcroft a big favorite, although the prices didn't last long in a low volume market.
