Would like to recommend a Cheltenham Banzai bet.

Today at Newbury Colour Squadron goes in a 2.1m nervous chase. He is currently 40s generally with some 60s on the machine for the Arkle. If he wins today I expect he will be fourth fav at around 16s.

Plus factors. JP Mac is building a strong team for the Tuesday and has ante post fav in most of the races that day. He has yet to show anything of note in the arkle so will want representation. If it runs Ap will be on board. The field is likely to cut up with Simonsig a very strong fav, with plenty looking at the Jewson or handicaps as a way of avoiding him, ie Capt conan.

Last time AP had an amazing ride on CS with the saddle slipping half way round, yet the horse still almost won...worth a look.

Add in the old adage, never be scared of one horse, and I have to suggest Fred has 5ew today for the arkle.

It could be over before we get to Chelts but by 3pm we could be looking quite promising.

Thanks.

Very happy to build a little portfolio of £5 & £10 Cheltenham Banzais, & this fits the bill nicely.

One question though, & excuse my ongoing ignorance as to the workings of Betfair.

I can get around 70 on Betfair, but that is Win Only, whereas the Bokies best price is 40/1.

How should I best proceed?

African Cup of Nations starts this weekend and I've had a little banzai bet on the top goalscorer. Lots of famous names on the list headed by none other than Didier Drogba. Way down the list though is Zambian captain Chris Katongo. Being Captain he's pretty much guaranteed a start and they have whipping boys Burkina Faso in their group, They also have Ethiopia who have either pulled out or been disqualified the last several tournaments. Katongo, I believe, although I'm not 100% certain, is the penalty taker.

Katongo was joint top scorer last tournament with three and he should be there or thereabouts this time as well.

You can currently get 33/1 at a few places, he's 20.00 on Betfair.

I've had a tenner E/W top 3 paid at BetVictor.

I'm not sure if you've missed this or are choosing to ignore it? I've bumped it in case it's the former.

Sorry Mr Rubbish, we don't ignore ANY recommends, but I was a bit distracted by other stuff yesterday (ditto today & tomorrow), so I just plum missed it.

I will get on the case today, & thank you.

Ahh, I have now found "Arkle Chase TBP", which I assume means "to be placed", for which the price is 10/1.

Is that the optimum route?

I will be going Offline mid-morning, & only intermittently available for the rest of the day, so if someone could wise me up as to that Colour Squadron bet (use Betfair Win & TBP?) I'd be grateful.

Bugger.

For some reason I though Katonga was a horse for Cheltenham.

All understood now. Probably.

Thanks.

Got there. Eventually.

These are good fun, as we get - we hope - a decent 2 or 3 week sweat for low cost.

We went with BetFred, as suggested by ChipPrince, as they go 40/1.

We have £10 EW @ 40/1, Betfred, Katonga, Top GoalScorer, ACN.

I cannot C & P the Betslip at present, so will Post it up tonight, when I get home, which will be late evening.

We have £5 @ 65, Betfair, Colour Squadron, to win the Arklle Chase at the Fessie.

We have £5 @ 13.5, Betfair, Colour Squadron to be placed, Arkle Chase at the Fessie.

At present, only some £3.50 has been matched.

Hopefully, he gives a good account of himself this afternoon, & if so, all aboard.

Can you let us know how he goes today, please?

Smart logic, BigAdz. I've also learned another racing maxim ("never be scared of one horse").

I hope you dont mind me giggling at the bold bit above...In the words of Aristotle, predictive text is a bitch. I got a fabulous image in my mind of quivering horses staring at a fence.

I wouldn't ever leave an ante post bet open while a horse is running.  If it wins you will never get matched.  If it loses badly, getting matched is a certainty.

Thanks CO

The Win part has now all been matched, but there remains £1.55 of the TBP unmatched.

I'll keep an eye on it & do the necessary before the race this afternoon.
