I don't want to stir up a settled argument.....
But my use of the word guesstimate was quite deliberate.
I thought the sample size was far too small to make a reliable estimate of the correct price of the QB, so I was guessing, with a small element of statistical evidence to back up my guess.
As to the price, I'm quite prepared to concede 4/6 the QB is MVP is value. But it's never as short as 1/3 as Neil suggests imo.
All understood, sir. As I said, I knew exactly what you meant and I recognise it's a word.
Your post above says you were guessing and that was the heart of my poorly constructed
*
and ill-fated grumble: you can say either guess or estimate and choosing one over the other implies the balance of knowledge/calculation/experience used. The word
guesstimate
solves a problem that doesn't exist and I was pointing out I don't like it.
It was academic but fervently defended. Nevertheless, it's over now
All of this detracts from the unanimously-loathed
recency
.
Uncle Tikay, may I be excused?
* oh the irony of starting an argument about the clarity of language and not getting my point across...
While all this was going on I managed to introduce the word Kaepernicking to the thread without so much as a peep.
Everyone's probably a little worried about seeming Kaepernickety now..

You're kaeper-nicked, sunshine!

Did you see Trump squeak through earlier?
Thought I was in antepost dreamland with Selby at 7-1 in the same half until Trump won.
He gives his opponents lots of chances, doesn't he? Or is that just early round jitters?

I did Rich, I have to be honest I thought he looked a bit unstable. He played as tho he is entitled to get great run of ball, was scowling when a few touches and bounces went against him and those shoes looked abs ridic, wtf were they all about. He got there in the end but I really think all this 'breath of fresh air, ridic talent' stuff has gone to his head. Did you see his pre game interview, he talked about being bored in York and started showboating to wake the crowd up, it's like he see's himself as the new entertainer instead of just trying to win frames.
Would have been great for Selby if he had been knocked out wouldn't it.
One other thing I noted was, like York the pockets were playing very easy, It could be a sign of things to come that tables are now set up with an eye to keeping the action flowing.
What do you think of this?
I had this discussion in York with a couple of guys that the foul penalty in snooker should be raised to either 6 but preferably 8, it's going to get to the stage now where pockets are huge and players are going to play it like pool, the incentive for playing snookers and wrapping up your opponent doesn't seem to have a big enough advantage if successful these days.

Zaha is off for Bolassie, as Zaha is injured. Really hope it is just a niggle, which i think it is. Apparently he was finding the form of old and was embarrassing some of the Stoke players. Great to hear but a shame he couldn't continue!

I follow him on twitter Phil, @juddt147 from memory, and on Sunday-Monday he was laying into snooker authorities, prize money for events, boring players etc. Really OTT stuff saying and implying that he was the star etc
I think he is tremendous to watch, but perhaps things have gone to his head a bit?
I then backed Selby, and almost got lucky today with Hawkins (in the sense that the bottom half would have really opened up, not that I had money on Hawkins)

I thought he looked ill and I don't mean that as a jibe I mean he did look ill. All the histrionics when he got a bit of bad run was ott. He deffo has a point about prize money and the authorities (BH) but to be calling players boring is so disrespectful, it's like he thinks his way of 'every shots a pot' is the only way to play and if you don't play that way you are a lesser player.

That's what you get for letting Barry Hearn take over control of your sport.
