Was on the laptop last night and the wife asked what I was doing.  I replied (clearly making it sound ridiculous) that I was betting on a weirdly named chap I'd never heard of to win Stage 4 of the cycling in Beijing.

She laughed an told me I was an idiot.  Now 99% of the time she's right...

Ta very much Mr CWS - think that's the second time you've helped me to a few quid profit.

Yes, he also gave us Rodriguez, @ 6/1, earlier this month.

I know sample size makes it silly, but I like silly sometimes - his current ROI is, I think, +680%....!

Finally, the Philadelphia eagles beat MRSA inflicted Tampa Bay yesterday to go to 3-3 on the season. Rather precipitously we backed them to win the Superbowl after week one, and they promptly lost the next three. However, the NFC East is so bad that it might only take 8-8 to win the division and get into the play-offs. Once yu make the play-offs, its the team that gets hot that has achance. That is a bet worth watching

I missed this at the time, so this is the first I've read of this.

I admire your optimism.  Nothing would please me more than seeing this win but, although improving, the defence just isn't good enough this season.  If we make the playoffs, there are too many good offensive teams who will be able to exploit this.

There, now you have the reverse-bok you require!

Congratulations CWS.

My internet had a funny turn about that time, so I missed it, but just great tipping anyway.

Ohhhh happy!  I backed the cycling tip.  I was also restricted to schrapnel but better in my pocket than the bookie.   I got £3.18 on @ 125/1.  Never realised it was a winner until reading the thread on my tea break.  Best cuppa I have had in an age.

Congrats Mr Wet Suit. Marvellous tipping.

Out of interest, what is everyone's biggest price ever winner? And the backstory?

Mine was this one:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Slam_Cup#1994

Magnus Larsson had just helped Sweden to win the Davis Cup, winning both his singles matches against Russia.

The next week was a prestigious tournament for the players who had performed well in that years Grand Slam events.

Magnus had a very tough draw, potentially facing Agassi in the quarters and Sampras in the final. When those two were at their peak and utterly dominant in most events.

But he had played incredible tennis the week before, I decided to take a chance his inspired form would continue, knowing that it was equally likely he let down badly and get koed in the first round.

100/1.

And I had one very near miss for a 250/1 winner.

One year (about 1986 I would guess) Stockport had their ground closed for safety reasons and played their first 16 or so games away from home in Division 4 (I think).

They were nearer the bottom than the top, but had two wins and a draw in the 3 games prior to me placing the bet.

When they started playing their home games, they went on incredible tear, 8 wins or so in a row and moved to within 3 points of the lead and into about 7/4 to win it.

Unfortunately the run didn't last and they faded away in the last 10 games.

But what a sweat!

£400 for a £3.18 bet!

Lovely, very well done.

Biggest near miss of all time. 2003 ESC, Belgium backed at 125-1, 100-1, 80-1 and 66-1 to win £££££.

http://www.myledbury.co.uk/eurovision/year/eurovision_2003.asp

Well clear with two juries left, 1.01 on the machine, but I didn't trade a massive amount back. Lesson learned.

Belgium got 2pts from the last two panels and Turkey nipped through on the rail. Sigh.

That is run by a guy called Johnny Chan. Not that one. Johnny Chan of Ledbury. Guy loves his home town.

He used to put all the tracks on a CD for me in the pre-Youtube days. Had an insane hedge back then.

Went to Ledbury for a poetry festival once.

Tikay wasn't there.

Treetops Hotel best place to stay in the area (NAP).

Lovely town, some great boozers.
