As someone who doesn't gamble or watch strictly. Wouldn't it make more sense not to read the thread on a Saturday, rather than trying to stop gamblers talking about how much has been won or lost?

Saturday is the busiest day by far, and I have to do the spreadsheet and the daily reports. Not viewing the thread just delays a ton of work for me. For example I have done the Sunday daily report now so I don't have to fire up the laptop in the hotel tomorrow morning, and it isn't delayed til I get to DTD late morning

What if people, on the day whatever event is potentially being spoilt and they are not meant to be viewing, want to recommend bets too?

Best not to spoil, or keep it to the minimum info needed to record/celebrate/commiserate a bet win/loss

For SCD, the eviction markets close when the first live show voting closes and the result is not public until Sunday night, there is not a gambling advantage to be gained by spoiling, merely we can record a win or a loss a day early

If there was a gambling advantage to be gained (eg inside info on X Factor, leaked results etc etc) where markets were open, then fine lets make money

In my old office if they ever talked about a show I used to stick my fingers in my ears and shout "la, la, la" until they had stopped talking. I would rather have to watch people have sex with my mother and sisters than have a film or TV show I love spoiled. Deliberately spoiling something is just the lowest of the low. Knowing the outcome makes the buildup pointless, makes watching the whole thing defunct.

fwiw this attitude only applies to things I care about, I had a bet on Myers and was happy to find out the result as I wouldn't have watched it anyway but I can still see other people's poverty.

Any way, what we punting today?

Lowest of the low?  I thought it was bad when people were saying bookies should stop taking bets on a Sunday in case it spoilt the show.  I wake up to find I am ranked below Bin Laden and Vince Cable.

I think we should have a nitty tenner that Anakin is Darth Vader.

Not at all.

I found out the twist in the plot of The Crying Game before I saw it,

If anything it enhanced my pleasure of watching an excellent film. As I saw it knowing Dil was deceiving Fergus as he seduced him, and it made the whole plot altogether darker.

Sounds like you missed out on the 1st viewing experience (with surprise) and just got the rewatch experience Smiley

To me anyway, gambling isn't about sweats and excitement, it's about winning money.

If finding out a result early might give me a small edge somehow, then of course I want to know.

Well that's fine, but I was arguing about the general concept of someone wanting to experience an event or show with a bit of excitement/anticipation of what is coming next.

Feels like i'm biting on a wind up here...

When I stream a film I quite regularly pause it and go on Wiki to see what happens at the end. Likewise TV shows. I'm currently watching White Collar for the first time but I've already seen the episode details of all five seasons. If I don't like what I read I wont watch it.

Removed post's that looked like after timing and bragging. Found a link now :-). Hope to find more time to research NFL from now on, it's been a busy year but I'd like to start being a valuable fred contributor again.

Kuku, welcome back!

The sooner the better.

We do fine on NFL, but we'd do even finer if you were around, your NFL views are highly respected here.

My point is, I was just watching the Real Madrid game, whilst reading the thread. There is a spoiler above. Also, it wasn't aimed at you, it was more for tal.

Fair enough, Celtic. Thanks for the feedback.

To me (and I know we're all different), this is a different situation to a TV series finale that's been on or a football match that someone is Sky+ing. The result of the show has not been broadcast at all; the participants are forbidden from sharing the result on Twitter and everything is deliberately kept quiet until Sunday night's transmission of the Results Show. For 99.99% of people watching that show tonight, it will be the first time they hear the result. Some won't even realise it's a pre-record. The point is, we aren't supposed to know the result. It isn't learning that Julius Caesar gets stabbed when you're on your way to the RSC in Stratford.

I didn't hugely mind learning whether Dave had been the one to leave (would have been relieved if he had and wouldn't know a lot if he hadn't). I will still watch the show, but I do enjoy the suspense of not knowing who will be in the dance off. I generally know the result when they have done the dance off anyway; it's usually pretty obvious who has done better or who the judges will fight to keep.

May I suggest as a compromise that Doobs posts a link to his source and everyone can then see it if they want?

In any event, I won't be on here between Saturday night and Sunday night for the rest of the series. I hate creating issues so I'll leave you to it. I'd much rather more people were happy. It's a silly thing to fall out over.

Peace and love.

Ahh, I like happy endings, when people kiss & make up.

I'm envisaging Keith kissing Posh Bloke. Don't forget to kiss Doobs, too. You can omit Celtic, to be fair.

My mind & imagination are truly strange things.

Anyway, get back to NFL research, we need some winners off you today. Please.
