For becks to win spoty he would have to score the winning goal in the final , take his shorts off
and throw them into the crowd , go into the royal box
, and give the queen a smacker on the lips.
IMHO of course.

".....I've been backing Beckham for SPOTY over the last 3 months got a pretty big position now.
I think if GB win the football gold he'll be a shoo in.
33/1 still huge value imo....."
(In Camel's opinion, obv).

British Athletes: Gold Medal Chances
Jessica "Rancid" Ennis
At the 2011 World Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea, Ennis finished second to Tatyana Chernova with a score of 6,751 points, 129 points behind Chernova and 72 points below her own personal best of 6,823 points. Although Ennis beat Chernova in five of the seven events, her defeat was largely due to Chernova scoring 251 more points in the javelin (52.95 metres compared to Ennis's best throw of 39.95 metres). Ennis did register personal bests of 14.67 metres in the shot put and 2 minutes 7.81 seconds in the 800m whilst also equalling her best of 6.61 metres in the long jump.
Will home advantage produce that extra level of performance. I think there is a risk she gets silver. If she does get gold, then she is a good thing, as the pin up girl of athletics, for SPOTY
Mo Farah
In the 2011 World Championships in Athletics, in Daegu, South Korea, Farah made a major breakthrough on the world stage by taking the silver medal in the 10,000 m and then the gold in the 5000 m.[38] He became the first British man to win a global title over either distance.[39] Farah had in fact been more strongly fancied to take the 10,000 m title, but was narrowly beaten in a last lap sprint by Ethiopian Ibrahim Jeilan. In the 5000 m he overcame Bernard Lagat, perhaps his major rival, beating him into second place. Following the race, Dave Moorcroft, former 5000 metres world record holder, hailed Farah as "the greatest male distance runner that Britain has ever seen
Dai Greene
On 31 July 2010, he won the Gold Medal in the 400m hurdles at the European Athletics Championships in Barcelona, with fellow Welshman Rhys Williams getting the silver.[11] On 10 October 2010, Greene won the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.[12]
On 1 September 2011, at the World Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea, Greene won the gold medal, overtaking a strong field in the final straight.
Phillips Idowu
a Nigerian-English triple jumper. He was the 2009 World Champion, the 2008 World Indoor champion and reigning 2010 EAA European Champion representing Great Britain and Northern Ireland, as well as 2006 Commonwealth Games champion representing England and 2007 European Indoor champion. He also won the silver medal representing Team GB at the 2008 Summer Olympics.
Ennis 3/1 for SPOTY, Farah 7/1, Greene 50/1, Idowu 66/1
IMO as on the thread a few pages ago, Greene is the safest gold bet, but also the lowest profile person and event
If Ennis wins Gold, SPOTY is hers, I think. Will she?
http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/general/athletics/jessica-ennis-won-the-battle-but-not-the-war--tatyana-chernova-7794105.html
The value e/w is Greene or Idowu. I say Greene
http://www.oddschecker.com/specials/awards/sports-personality-of-the-year/winner
Non athletes include Hoy, Wiggins, Adlington, Ainslie, Tom Daley etc but I do think an athlete who wins Gold would be favourite

British public will also remember the horrible man who called Jessica Ennis fat when voting time comes round. Fat!? She's more ripped than me.
If she's 8/13 to win the Heptathlon and a good thing to win SPOTY if she does so, what price should she be for SPOTY? Once in a while a price comes along that is plain wrong.

I don't think she's 8/13 to win the Hepthalon. I think its 50-50.
If she does win Gold, she's odds on to win SPOTY.

We are also assuming she avoids injury.

It isn't going to happen, ofc, and I'm not suggesting a bet but, if England won the Euro's obv no athlete gets a look in. If they did win then would we expect the captain to win it a high majorty of the time or whoever scored the winner in the final, etc ? Gerrard is 250/1 to win it so slightly bigger than the price Eng are to win the Euro's.

You could mop up all the
and
on Ennis to win spoty.
Then lay her on betfair to win gold @ around 2.25 - 2.50 to cover your stake on her to win spoty.
Free bet unless she wins gold and press finds out she's a bloke.

I'll run round DTD cardroom naked if any Pro Punter were ever to agree with that. *

wow spooky, ive just typed that out and backed it too. It's a basic math error really, if England are 12/1 to win Euro 2012 then they are saying by being 250/1 for SPOTY that the England captain would then be around 18/1 to win SPOTY. That is obv v v wrong, I don't fancy England at all but at 250/1 they have priced him up on what he has done this season at this point, not what might happen between now and the SPOTY taking place.
obv got laid schrapnel tho.
