I think Hamilton holding off Rosberg in the last two races when on the harder compound and under extreme pressure with Rosberg in the quicker car showed a maturity that was lacking previously. in prior years he's definitely snapped under some of that pressure

Not too popular to be pro-Hamilton around here, but he's diefinitely quicker on a single lap so more often than not will qualify ahead of Rosberg, which puts him in control of most races and leaves Rosberg trying to over-take. 

I would be surprised if he didn't win it this year though of course in temperament he is more volatile than Rosberg and he has yet to have to respond to a setback this year

Bottas, think we have 50-1 each way for the title. Williams were identified v early on in testing as having a dramatically improved car this season, and the performances do indeed confirm that. Problem is of course behind Mercedes the performance differentials are small and the grid is very crowded with red bull, ferrari, force india, williams etc all chasing the podium spots

Well, time will tell - but I still think Rosberg will take the title, despite Hamilton's current winning run

I can see why you would make that Bottas bet during pre-season, their car did look fantastic at one stage. Pretty much know it's a losing bet now though. I'm glad I did this pre-season:

Actually I did a lot of pre-season bets and it looks like I stand to make decent profits right now, it's just a shame I didn't have more capital to invest

The Bottas bet isn't dead, just marked wrong on the spreadsheet.  If you follow the link, the bet was a tenner each way, so we still have 10/1 first 3.  It is probably unlikely to pay out, but can't be dead as yet.  We are close to switching off the ventilator on the Mclaren bets, they looked so promising for a while.

Each way makes it a little better, but I would personally be counting it as dead money now as to not get my hopes up.

What were the McLaren bets? I see the spreadsheet but there are a lot of tabs and a lot of information on each tab so it is hard to pin-point every F1 bet.

There is a specific market for the bet, and I don't believe you can create your own team/nation double.

If anyone is unable to find doubles etc that are 'special doubles' on other sites, go to oddschecker, click the individual selection, then go to the next oddschecker page and click the other selection and it will do it as a double on that site.

It's a related bet so can't simply double. If Argentina win and thus play more games than most teams, plus likely score more goals in the final, messi is short to be top scorer, not his stand alone price. Looks OK to me

Any bet that is posted and suggested here gets documented in the spreadsheet. You can recommend anything that you think is a value bet providing your opinion and reasoning.  It will get discussed here and if most people agree then the so called "Fred" will be on.

I think Fred starts with £3k bankroll at the start of they year but people may correct me on this one.

Loosely speaking...

There's a notional guy for the thread, who decides which bets he places on the thread's behalf. His name is Fred. The spreadsheet is the Profit and Loss record for his punting exploits, since tikay gave in to The Camel's persuasive charm and came back to the dark side and started punting again.

Not every tip posted ITT makes it to the spreadsheet. Although "Fred" doesn't bet on everything people suggest (what winning punter does?!), there are people here who follow some tips and, anecdotally, you tend to find winners get congratulated by people who have had a cheeky bet on the tip.

How does Fred decide which tips to bet on? That's one for the Elders...

The Elders are the wiser heads amongst us. Some have specific knowledge on sports; others a general understanding of betting; the rest of us do what we're told. Largely.

F1 seems to have been a variance bludgeoning Achilles heel for Fred. Basketball was IIRC, too. We seem to have turned that around, so only a matter of time before we find a bet on Max Chilton at 2500/1 and get the lot.
