Think we should be adding Taylor to the matchplay portfolio.  2/1 bf sportsbook and bwin is comfortably under on bf.  He is back to his fearless best after his 9 darter last night and 100+ average and has got a gift of a 1/4 final verses the golden newton who must be wondering how he has made the 1/4's with an 81 average in 2 games!

£40 recommended 2/1

this means we have now backed 9 of the last 8

Forest are not even in the top 6 in the betting for the league, have a new manager, key new players to be bedded in during pre season etc etc.

Surely that is a plus, 'new manager syndrome' and all?

For me Stuart Peace is a negative to Forest prospects.  Failed at City and very poor during the later period of his U21 adventure.  I've seen nothing to suggest he will hit the ground running in the Championship.

It is inconceivable that Blackpool won't have a servicable squad by the time the season kicks off.  You can mash together some decent loans and freebies in a week that will compete at Championship level.  I think odds against on them staying up is the value bet at the moment.

First time I've looked at the championship opening fixture odds, and at first glance Norwich at 5/2 away to Wolves looks good?  I expect Wolves to do fine this season, but the first game back at a higher level is always tough, and Norwich have retained most of their premier league squad.  Norwich are bigger dogs than Bournemouth at Huddersfield and Leeds at Millwall.

Something's not right.

Cricket's Royal London cup starts this weekend

50 over competition

18 counties split into 2 groups of 9

each play each other once, so 8 games per team per group

top 4 through, then knock out

the two groups drawn randomly before the season

the strongest one day sides in the country, off T20 form, past seasons are

Hampshire
Essex
Notts
Lancs
Yorks

4 of these five are drawn in one group

Group A                               Group B
Hampshire                              Kent Spitfires
Derbyshire Falcons              Durham
Lancashire Lightning              Glamorgan
Gloucestershire Gladiators      Nottinghamshire Outlaws
Leicestershire Foxes              Sussex Sharks
Northamptonshire Steelbacks  Warwickshire Bears
Worcestershire                      Surrey
Essex Eagles                      Middlesex Panthers
Yorkshire Vikings                   Somerset

they also represent 5 of the top 8 in the market

http://www.oddschecker.com/cricket/royal-london-one-day-cup/winner

the history of the 3rd domestic competition is a pretty jaded one, and what we are usually looking for here is a team that is not competing for a county championship or T20 title

With the domestic schedule so crowded, teams will prioritise other competitions if still in them. Each county operates a squad under a salary cap, so if you rest your key players (because you have a key T20 quarter coming up say) you have to play the youngsters in this

its very rare to see a team win more than one trophy in any given season as a result

so what you need in this are

- teams not fighting on other fronts
- in decent recent form
- with potential to click

two teams fit this bill at the prices

- Sussex at 12-1 (14-1 stan james)

high powered line up just coming into form, injured players returning
poor recent record in T20, so this is a priority
won the 40 over comp in 08 and 09 and many of the same players around, notably luke wright, ed joyce and chris nash who can win games in this
not going to win the lvcc, not going to go down, not in the t20

- Kent at 33-1

Under-resourced county financially but a lot of young talent coming through.
Likely to prioritise this, not going up in LVCC, not in T20.
good recent form. Experienced players like Key and Stevens still bring it in the one day formats
Completely disregarded in betting markets, which is good. the team is maturing much quicker than 33-1 suggests

both are in the other group to the majority of the powerhouses. get out of the group, then a little bit of luck needed to give you a squeak

recommendations

£20 e/w 1/2 1,2 each Sussex 12-1 Ladbrokes, Kent 33-1 Betfair Sportsbook

I'm in favour of both please Rich, go ahead.

They may well do. But surely taking odds against is guessing that the squad will be good enough.

Cert not a value spot for me.

Poshies got Gareth Bale on loan for the season.

Kerrin McEvoy. Anyone know much about him?

I'd say that unless someone has a points deduction then any club odds against to avoid relegation from the Championship is value.  The historical margins between the teams are so narrow.

Just my opinion from watching it for donkey's years and knowing how quickly reasonably competitive teams can be put together.

Not to shrewd too take pre-season friendlies literally but Wolves looked a bit behind when they scrambled a to-to draw at Posh the other night. They got stronger as the season went on last time round and be no surprise if they were slowly away again.

What our resident Barnsley fan make of their batch of new signings? I know a Scunny fan, who sayed Winnall is a bit of an Andy Cole type, ie converts one in about four, and was in the right team at the right level last season.

Not much.

Kenny McEvoy is a left footed winger (either side, I think) for our NextGen side. Had a stormer in the game where we beat Barcelona('s NextGen side) 4-1.

Scored the other day for the academy in a tournament in Holland. Seems like a prospect, but he'd be behind Lennon, Townsend and Fredricks in the Running Quickly and not Doing Enough Stakes.

Whilst we are discussing football fixtures in advance.  The Scottish season gets underway on 9th August, the most anticipated game has to be Rangers v Hearts in the Championship.  Even as a Celtic fan I am looking forward more to seeing the Championship with Rangers, Hearts, Hibs all in there along with Falkirk and Queen of the South it promises to be competitive.

As many on here know for large periods last season I was very anti Hearts whenever I could bet against them I did.  It was for large spells like getting free money.  However, since the takeover they have gone quietly about their business they have a new first team coach and the experienced Craig Levein is in as Director of Football (love him or hate him he knows what he's doing at this level) player wise although they have lost some experience they have got rid of, imo a few players who were overpaid, overrated and quite frankly liabilities.  They have brought in a few players who have operated at a higher level and who done well in the SPL for Levein at Dundee United.  Namely Prince Bauben and Morgaro Gomis.  They have also brought n former Rangers and Scotland GK Neil Alexander.

They have brought in Soufian El Hassnoui who previously played in Holland, and although not prolific over there I am sure he will prove to be a decent signing.  He reminds me of Mark de Vries who done well for Levein at Hearts.

With their finances in order and the players having security I feel many of the yougsters from last season who played well in spells will be much more grounded and be ready for the challenge.  Fom what I have heard also Robbie Neilsen is apparently a very good coach.

I don't see Hearts out of the top 2, indeed I think they will win the division.  Although Rangers had previously cantered the divisions lower than this they hadn;t been convincing in doing do, they literally bought their way to where they are now which is what them got them into the mess they were in previously which led to liquidation.  They have a poor manager and an ageing squad that is overpaid.

I think 7/2 is value for Hearts.  I'd have made them slightly shorter to win outright.  But I like the 7/2 @ 1/3 of the odds e/w with Billy Mountains.   I'm very sweet on this and have invested quite a bit myself.  For Fred I think £100 e/w Hearts is a good season long sweat.

I'd also consider trying to recoup some of our funds as early as the first game of the season by backing Hearts @ 3/1 to get off to a win at Ibrox.
