Question for Tighty.  How do you think the death of Tom Maynard will affect the England team today?  In sports where effort and physicality is important then something like this can be a motivator as they want to win to honour the persons memory but not so sure about cricket where mental focus is probably as important as anything.

It was horrible news. I watched him a lot and he was good, potentially England team good. I don't think it affects the England team as such, though.

For the Surrey team (where the thread has a bet on), where he was really popular in the dressing room, I would expect it to have quite an impact. When Ben Hollioake passed away in 02 it was privately mentioned by several in the team as a major factor in their decline from the top county side in 1999-02 to a point where the team was being relegated and breaking up in 2005-6

Surrey have to start playing again on Friday.

I am at work so cannot check comparable prices but what odds Mr Rooney first booking this evening?

From history, following previous indiscretions he tends to approach games with a I must win this thing myself mentality which whilst also making him likely for first goal, also makes him as likely to put some defender 8 feet in the air in the first 10 minutes.

Could be worth a Banzai £10 if people agree, and the price is fair.

NOTE - this is not an England bok from "north" of the border

Rooney is 22/1 with SportingBet and PaddyPower.

Ladbrokes have a "What will Rooney do first?" market.

At 22/1 I think thats a good banzai bet, you watch him against Newcastle earlier the season after being out he ran about like a man possessed.  With this approach/pace one timing slip and an inoccuous challenge (bad spelling?) looks horrendous....this is on the assumption he is starting of course, which I assume is a given.  I do not see any standout bets in the do first markets

I just tried to justify it with stats and the first article I found was "Wayne Rooney hasnt been booked all season" lol so we are left with my speculative feeling...and so further opinion probably useful

Any other candidates for first booking?
Any kamikaze midfielders or defenders that are likely to be targeted?

I am not sure of Milner's disciplinary record, but with him having a rubbish tournament so far and the likelyhood that he will be taken of for Theo at some point, I could see frustration getting better of him. Although, do think the first booking will go to a Ukrainian player.

As for any other tips, I'd look at perhaps anytime goalscorers and England win.

Rooney and England is 4/1.

But, the Ukraine keeper is questionable and with Gerrard and Parker not afraid to have a shot, I wouldn't put past either of them knocking past the poorest keeper in the ournament.

I assume that option means that he will not do any of the other things on the list.
