"I do think there is something to wager on here but my gut feeling is that 11/4 for 11 or more Irish winners is better value than the 6/1 for 13 or more. What do you think about betting that at 11/4 for say £50?

I'd be very interested in Mr Horseplayers view on this."

that seems a fair price as well is it better value? again hard to quantify

I am still quite intrigued by this.

Betfair go 6/4 10 or more runners, & elsewhere, I can get 11/4 for 11 or more.

Is there a way of correlating those two prices? What would be the true price of 11 or more, IF 6/4 were the true price of 10 or more?

its not that simple, you can't extrapolate the price out as each race is not the same. If all races were exacts copies you could. Figuring out if its true value would require a lot of work. 11/4 11+ looks better value without doing any work whatsover.

I asked my horse correspondent and he didn't like the bet at all, he reckoned under over 8 was about the pick em line. (So you would want bigger than 6/1)

OK Tom, that'll do me. I was just struggling to contain my curiosity for some reason.

Next case.

Laddies are going 3/1 Henderson top trainer in shop until 1pm today £50 max

Can lay it on BF @ 3.15

Printing £42.50 freeroll (pre-commish) (or lay it for a bit more to lock in a smaller profit)

Is the Ladbrokes punt conditional on doing the BF lay, too, or is the initial bet value in itself?

Latter...the BF price being 3.15 implies that it's value.

Sooooo, did you just lay the £50 on Betfair or did you lay a bit more to lock in a profit either way?

The first ball at Dunedin tonight for the third day of the first test where you are on SA sees NZ's Chris Martin on strike, going for his 33rd Test Match duck

The term is a shortening of the term "duck's egg", the latter being used long before Test cricket began. When referring to the Prince of Wales's (the future Edward VII) score of nought on 17 July 1866, a contemporary newspaper wrote that the Prince "retired to the royal pavilion on a "duck's egg"".The name is believed to come from the shape of the number "0" being similar to that of a duck's egg. The Concise Oxford Dictionary still cites "duck's egg" as an alternative version of the term.

Martin has the rather dubious honour of belonging to a select group of cricketers whose number of wickets taken exceeds runs scored; Bhagwat Chandrasekhar is the only other cricketer to have achieved this 'honour' (assuming a qualification of 30 Tests played). Martin also holds the record for the most pairs recorded in Test match history.

He has now scored 112 runs in 65 tests

Worth a watch.

Brilliant spot Tighty!

I shall watch with interest.

Tell you what - after the dreadfully sooul-less & uncrickety (?) grounds/stadiums in Dubai & the like, what an absolute beautiful ground Dunedin is.
