As a self confessed nit I have been reticent to recommend a bet before now, even with someone else's money, however it is time to grow a pair and face the potential scorn of the masses.

In the Masters golf 2 balls today I would like to recommend backing Vijay Singh to beat Tiger Woods at a generally available 15/8.

He out scored him in the first 2 rounds and hopefully yesterday was his one bad round. Tiger is 12 shots off the lead with no realistic chance of winning. I can see Tiger taking too many risks in an attempt to make something spectacular happen and getting into some horrible spots. It could mean that all Vijay will have to do to win this is shoot level par, which he did in his first 2 rounds. If Tiger was vying for the lead then I wouldn't be recommending this but he isn't and that is one of the key reasons why I believe this is a good price.

As far as an amount to bet is concerned I would not enjoy watching the rest of the golf if you bet what i consider to be an amount that the bankroll doesn't justify so no more than £50.

I really admire your humility & bravery if that is your first tip itt!

Not sure I'd wager £50 on it, £25 maybe. Opposing Woods, that IS brave stuff. He has been either fish or fowl this Tourney, it just depends which Tiger turns up today I guess.

What is Vijay's "history" on final days when he is out of contention? Does he give his best, or just go through the motions?

One thing that might need to be considered is that it cannot be much fun playing with tiger at the moment.

His petulance, vitriolic outbursts and lack of respect that seem to surface each time he hits a bad shot make him someone that I imagine most players are dreading being paired with.

Woods never ever gives up on a tournament, i fancy vijay might get a bit tired, he's a big lump to haul around the course 4 days in a row at his age - and augusta is a brute of a walk. I've backed Hanson to beat michelson at 5/2 in a 2 ball, that seems far more appealing to me (not recommending it for the tips btw tikay)

quick check of the previous form, tiger has been playing some great final rounds here for the last 4 years. I think he really likes trying to have a go no matter how far back he is.

Masters bet.

This counteracts my Justin Rose top englishman bet which still has a chance, so you might want to leave it alone.

Westwood for a top 5 finish is priced at 19/10 on betfair.

The wind is going to get up today which will sort them out again, its a big advantage for westwood round Augusta with the tight drives. There will be a lot of par and over par scores from the top 20 today, if westwood can drive anything like he has already this week, i rate he'll get more chances to pick shots up than anybody else.

I expect a 70 or 71 will be good enough to get him top 5, a good chance that par will do it for him.

I quite like that, Tom, I'll go take a look now.

Any counter arguments? Seems a reasonable price, not that I know much about these things.

Aren't you already on Westwood to finish in the top five at 5/1 from your pre tourney ew bet at 20/1?

Oh yeah, so I am.....

That'll teach me to be too quick off the mark!

I'll either win more, or lose more now, then.....

In (weak) defence, 5/1 to place BEFORE the Tourney is very different to (almost) 2/1 on Day Four, yes? Please say "yes" Phil, you would if you loved me.

yes, deffo is Tony. The only prob imo being you have reduced the overall price you are now on a top 5 finish and increased the stake. Effectively you have reduced your edge from the original bet which is now brill value at 5/1 the top five finish.

Regards the Arsenal v Man City game and the point made earlier about there being goals.

That was my first thought too I then looked at the prices and I was less keen on that.  Man City need to win to keep alive having a shot at the title.  For that reason  I can see Mancini nitting up and tryng to contain Arsenal and nick one on the counter.

Arsenal will play out a game that will see them launch wave of attack after attack but so often they try and score the perfect goal which results in less goals for them than there should be.

Additionally, the super sunday games tend not to live up to expectations.

I'd tend to air on the side of caution though and back under 3.5 goals @ 4/9.

A little late but in the Man United v QPR game I have backed under 2.5 goals at 3.0 on betfair with the intention of laying the bet off in play, this has been a bet that has worked quite well for me in TV games this season.

Hi Ace, do you have the link to that Masters weather forecast re the wind?

Cheers

it's been spot on the last 2 days.

http://www.wunderground.com/US/GA/Augusta.html

Thanks Ace,

The official course forecast is here.

http://www.weather.com/outlook/recreation/golf/hourbyhour/1028887:5

It has the winds at between 9-12 mph for todays play, strongest being about 12 mph around 22.00 our time, the link you had said 16 kpm which converts to 9 mph too. I't deffo doesn't look to be windy at the venue today.

His behaviour on Day 2 was, I thought, well worthy of reprimand, certainly in golfing terms. It's a bit tough on the players when TV microphones pick up there every utterance, in fairness, but I still thought it was out of order.

I rather enjoyed the hug between Sergio & Rory, both of them were tons over for the day, then both hit it stone dead on a Par 3 & nabbed a pair of birdies!

it says 20 kph in the summary, thats what i looked at. I'm basing it on the 3 kph breeze yesterday i.e. no breeze as opposed to 20 kph today.

What was the wind strentgh on day one?

Fully expecting i've made a boob here btw. I thought it was 30kph on Thursday when they were all over the place.

It was my mistake, not yours. The bet was a good one, if I were not already on @ effectively 5/1!

On your current form, you are dangerous to oppose! However, @ 4/9, I think I'll swerve that one. Cue ANOTHER unbacked winner......

Good luck.

hi mate,

Thursday was all over the place, the players that were off the course last got a big result as the wind got pretty strong for the last 60 mins of play. They finished at just the right time.

Yesterday was forecast to be about the same as today.

I hope you know I wasn't trying to diss your post, I have set some markets and got money involved in some spots with an assumption that the forecast was to be sunny and a light wind, was a little spooked when you posted it might have changed when I woke up earlier.

That as a bit strange.  in the Man United game, I was definitely unlucky with that penalty call and Man United scoring early.  Subsequently the price drifted and I was unable to lay off my bet for what I was looking at I then tried to get matched at 1.58 as time went on as the price had dropped to 1.62 and Paul Scholes scores, at this point I am hating life and decide to let it roll.

So I am now free rolling the Arsenal game.  Its a good day from here on in no matter what.
