Well you never quite uttered those words, but it implied as much. Good read, too, imo. You were not so much defending me, as attacking someone else, in fact. Actually, you were attacking at least three people, all of whom had an uncanny resemblance to each other.

Get off yer arse & Post up some basketball bets. Tip off is the phrase, remember that, very apt for a Betting board.

See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_rules_football

You know the old quote "Football is a gentleman's game played by hooligans, and rugby is a hooligans' game played by gentlemen"?

Well, Aussie Rules is a hooligan's game played by hooligans.

Barrys not a hooligan!

Game is live on ESPN tomorrow, come on you Pies!!!

It is disgusting the way that player went down in a silly attempt to get the other player in trouble.  Spoils the game.

Love the Keith bet of Swansea......can't go into too much detail as top why for reasons some of you know but Blackburn are most definitely not scrapping for their life.  Swansea are the better team and possibly even more motivated after 4 losses on the spin.  They should be 4/5 imo and I would not back Blackburn with counterfeit

Basically this.

The one team you need to be 100% motivated against and prepared to put in an extra shift against is Swansea because you are going to have to run like you've never run before.

I'm certain that at least a couple (if not more) or the Blackburn team have lost confidence in and are no longer playing for him. More like they are playing out the season and waiting for a move in the summer.

Add to that the highest regard I have for Brendan Rodgers. He simply won't let Swansea's fantastic season end with a wimper. I heard there was a bit of a lock in at Loftus Road afted their abject display against QPR and maybe for the first time this season BR got the hairdryer out. I expect a massively improved display against Blackburn.

Odds against is all wrong imo. I expect 1.8 or maybe even shorter by kickoff.

This is just about my strongest Premier League selection of the season so far.

That sounds to me like a very broad hint, supported by other Elders, too.

Time for some backbone, courage, & given our limited 'roll, a touch of degeneracy.

Hope I am not consider an "elder"

I am just a callow youth. It was only last year, or maybe the year before that that the bookmaker at Slough dogs didn't give me a ticket when I had a bet, he simply said to his clerk "Thirty five to twenty, down to the boy".

"The boy". That's me.

You da man boy

Never knew you were a Slough dogs man? I rarely missed a meeting there, & used to somehow run good there with my punting.  Very tight track (later it became a Sainsburys I believe), &, by dog track standards, was well-appointed. Doubt I missed a Meeting there in 2 years at one stage, & I owned a couple of graders, too. If there had been a grade less than A8 they would have won a race, too.

In that period of my life, I was at dog races most nights of the week - Walthamstow, Haringey, Hackney BAGS on a Saturday morning, Watford BAGS on a Friday. White City & Hendon (the latter now Brent Cross Shopping Centre), were closed  by then iirc. I tried to avoud Plough Lane, never liked the place, & could not believe it when the Derby moved there. The last time I attended a Greyhound Derby was at White City. Think it was the year that Sarahs Bunny won it, 1980 or thereabouts.

Just a quick update on the IPL.  Mumbai currently sit top of the table with 3 wins from 4 games.  The injury to Tendulkar has affected them at the top of the order, but he will hopefully be back for their next match on Monday.  They have the 3 leading wicket takers in the competition so far and Pollard looked in awesome form with the bat the other day, so so far so good.

Slough was a great track. Really good facilities and pretty straight forward punting. Wait until it was icy and back the railers or soaking wet and bet the wide dogs. RFC doubles through the card 1x2 or 5x6 ftw.

We used to live near Ted (and later Hazel) Dickson. Who was a really good trainer, straight as arrow (nearly). When he said he "fancies one of mine tomorrow", it won. Simple as that.

Incred! Same here, it was always 1 & 2, or 5 & 6.

My memory may be playing tricks, but the thing those days were forecast dubs, through the card, think it was 8 races = 112 bets. Used to do it for 10p to start with (£11.20), & when not "between bankrolls" would go up to 50p or even a £. Did those in the Betting Shop before raciing, then just punted forecasts all night at the track once the going had been established.

There were, of course, no Online Bookies then. In fact, unless I'm mistaken, the internet, at least for general public use, had not even been invented, so I sort of lived in the High Street betting shops, "Turf Accountants" or "LBO's" as they were known then. I spent several years trying to buy one in fact, after I finished my Settling Course with Wm Hill. That was before even "Genies" (automatic, mechanical, settling machines for betting Shop staff, so we did it all in our head), but the majors objected to every licence application I made, they had the system all sewn up. Now, 40 or 50 years on, the high street shops must surely all be doomed. They were so different then, too, the Law insisted that the windows be blacked out, the front door closed (or a "curtain"), no seats in the shop (to discourage punters being comfortable, lol). Now, I'm told, you can even get a coffee in a betting shop. WTF.

Last time I visted a betting shop was in Brighton, was down there for a poker Tourney, & was chilling with Roy Brindley & Mags for the day, this was before they had kids. I had given up punting then, but Roy persuaded me to punt a "good thing" in a Ladbrokes in "The Lanes" in Brighton. GG £100.

What changes I have seen in a lifetime.

Do you know Phil Peters?

He changed the way forecasts were returned.

In the late 60s early 70s, forecasts in bookmakers were paid out at the returned track tote dividend.

He spotted the weakness in this and waited until conditions were in his favour and then went to the bookies for RFC doubles.

Then off to the track and had enough money on the traps he didn't want to inflate the divi so he cleaned up.

Phil looks like a harmless old buffer these days.

But he was a punting genius, years ahead of his time. Anyone should take the chance to chat to him about the old days if they ever are lucky enough to be sitting at his table for a poker tournament. It'll be an education.

Phil Peters, yes, of course! Always glued to the screen of his lappie working out some ingenious bet, last time I saw him was in the lobby of the Burlington in Dublin, at the Irish Open a year or two back.

He was a regular at Walsall Grosvenor for donkeys years, his wife - can't recall her name but it was a very unusual name - was a better poker player than Phil imo.

Great guy, though with age, became a little crusty & obdurate. Hope I don't get liike that.

No idea why, but the first bookies shop I ever visited has just come to mind - "Terry Downes". Terry was a boxing champion, bent as a nine bob note, think he sold his chain of shops to Wm Hill for a small fortune. Terry had nothing to do with them I would think, he was not terribly bright upstairs, he was probably just a front.

Your post reminds me - those 112 fogey doubles I mentioned were of course reverse forecast dubs. I think "straights" were 28 bets, but I never did them.

Dithering is so last year, you need to progress to Bimbling, its the future.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=bimble

Darts tonight 4/1 (Skybet) Barney vs Taylor might be the best position to oppose Taylor all tournament if you so inclined, and Barney has hit a bit of form - but hey its against Taylor so maybe the draw at 13/2 might be the better bet to oppose Taylor?

I do like the Sky Bet enhanced accumulator today.
Wade to win vs Anderson
Whitlock win
Taylor win
Anderson win vs Hamilton (Anderson plays twice tonight).
7/1 with Sky Bet seems a decent price too.

I completely missed that. Sorry - I think. How did it get on?
