What's coming up?

Wimbledon continues with the ladies semi-finals.

There's snooker in Thailand.

There's T20 cricket and the first ODI between West Indies and New Zealand.

The weekend's golf commences with the Open De France, the Greenbrier Classic and the LPGA US Open. Something for every golf fan there.

The Tour De France continues.

Things start getting revved up for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone this weekend.

In the last 15 events at Le Golf National, there have been just two years when there has been a hole-in-one (2002, 2008).

8/11 no hole in one Skybet, 4/6 Paddy.

Sandy

Can we confirm that the course has not been altered to make the par 3's easier?
I guess that it's unlikely.

Looks a value bet if not. Phil (bobby1) is out here, crushing poker tourneys, I'll ask him if the Course has changed recently, he seems to have a handle on these things.

Golf  The Greenbrier Classic

With Tiger's new found form he is now going off at un-backable prices, 7-2 in a field of over 130 people is ridiculous. None of the main contenders stand out for me this week so I am going to recommend a couple of the lesser lights who have good course form in previous years.

Brendon de Jonge @ 40-1 Corals   and Jonathan Byrd @ 45-1 in lots of places. As they are both at big prices we can keep the stakes small so £5 e/w is recommended.

Hi Hector,

There isn't much value in shouting up against bets put up by someone at these prices but I would say that the field at the top end this year is much stronger than the previous renewals and many of the holes were altered before last years event too, so the quality of the course form must be questioned for those two reasons.

I could never back De Jonge to win a tourney either  (unless the price was very wrong) . They mentioned a stat last week which I half remember which was something like he has made more birdies on the US tour in the last xx months than any other player, the reasons he doesn't win were visible in the last round last week when he once again blew a good chance, he just hasn't really looked like winning when he has had chances before either.  Donaldson who won on the Euro tour last week has been in the same mould in the past too but he became yet another player to get a win after recently becoming a father so that might have something to do with the calmer mindset when in contention, which I am not sure De Jonge has mastered yet.  At 40/1 it fully accounts for his current form and the course form imo.

Jonny B is a different story as he has a good few wins and is generally under rated for someone that hits it nice and str8.

cue a De Jonge win btw but he wouldn't be for me until he proves he can get over the line.

The Euro golf has started Tony so the hole in one bet will no longer be available, Paris National is just about my fav track on the Euro tour, the closing stretch can be a real handful too so was a bit of a schoolboy error to be missing in action this week. The no hole in one looked value to me as none of the par 3's are short holes.

How do you find decent specials like Highest team in X location throughout the whole Football League? I can't seem to find those specials and others?

I didn't get this on in time.
Totally my fault.
Let us know when it wins.

It seems to me that the odds on this are pretty consistent but hardly any thought goes in to how a course plays. You'd think they would pay more attention to this market after getting stung years ago.

Some courses hardly see a hole in one where as others see them frequently yet still Sky go 8/11 no 1/1 yes and others who offer the market are only slightly different.

Not claiming expert status, but a big fan

Weather forecast is very changeable for the weekend to say the least, and I would say chances of a safety car are good. This is mainly because the race may run a while behind the pace car if the spray/risk of aquaplaning is seen to be too high

Offsetting this Silverstone is obviously an old airfield, huge run off areas, experienced marshals...cars spin they can be recovered without affecting the race

The last v wet British GP in 2008, which saw a drying track for most of it saw spins galore

As for the race, Red Bull had a lot of upgtades pre Valencia, and had the pace of the race.

McLaren have upgrades for this, and it is a track that suits them far more...fast sweeping corners requiring downforce more their bag than tight street circuits

http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2012/07/mclaren-aero-and-suspension-upgrades-worth-more-than-a-tenth/

As we know forecasting race winners in 2012 is a mugs game, as qualifying performance and race performance is so different, and forecasting tyre wear is impossible

However personally I wouldn't have Vettel favourite over Hamilton in either qualifying or the race. The combination of the mclaren upgrades, track etc should see it very close. The value in the two is Hamilton

http://www.oddschecker.com/motor-sport/formula-one/british-grand-prix/winner

and I would have the Lotus cars of Raikkonen and Grosjean which are the pick of the races on tyre wear and consistency to be near the podium

Having done "find" of the race reports of 2000+ there it would appear to be safety cars deployed in 03,05 & 10 which would indicate a bad bet although the forecast of showers tempers this a bit.

Giroud back in at 10.5 with vc but Van Persie is 4/9 from 1/10 to go. If he goes it's a great bet, if he doesn't it's probably a small losing bet

I mean surely only races where rain is forecast are applicable?
