What's coming up?

SS1 has Scotland v Australia. Do footballers really fly all the way from Aussie to Scotland for a friendly?

I dont think any of the squad actually play in Aus, mostly Europe..

Yes, I guess that makes sense.

Did you know that in 2001 Australia scored, in two games, which were two days apart, FIFTY THREE goals, & in one match, Archie Thompson scored 13?

Yup, just for Tighty that.

Archie Thompson, of course, was a New Zealander. Obv.

There must be a chance that the match will not even happen, I guess.

It cannot continue indfefinitely, & if they cannot pay their bills, the Football League would be better calling a halt now, rather than halway trhough the season, after more debts have piled up. Stitch in time & all that, though it would be unlike the Football League to be so forward thinking.

I've done some research.

Apparently Pompey have at least 6 players ready and waiting to sign. Maybe as many as 10.

Just waiting for final confirmation of contracts and playing budget.

Names I've heard they have been talking to include: Brian Howard, Izale McLeod, Mustapha Dumbuya and Martin Rowlands.

If that is the quality of player they can attract, they should be a top half League 1 team at the very least.

Whether or not they get these guys on board before Saturday is moot.

More likely no than yes. But still a chance.

Dumbuya is ex-rovers, frustrating we had to let him go. Been at donny for a few seasons but he has improved significantly and I'm gutted to find out we've let him go! Not sure about Pompey tbh, in some ways i want them to go bust just to sort football out, but on the other hand I'd be gutted if it was my club so a tough one really.

Ayr was frustrating yesterday.  I done not too bad.  The first 4 races were a bit of a damp squib.  I did however get the last 3 winners.

I followed Fred last night with Swindon/Plymouth.  But I also had Derby in a Treble with Plymouth & Posh.

Anyone have any thoughts on the friendlies tonight?

I'm not sure how match fit certain players will be, but based on my very strong opinion that the Scotland squad is weak and that Craig Levein is out of his depth at this level I don't think backing the Aussies can be a bad move.

All these have played pre-season games for them, they beat a strongish Bolton side 3-0 10 days ago.

They also have Luke Rodgers who has been playing up front with Henry for New York red Bulls for the last 12 months.

Any opinions on this market?  Basically season long bets on players bagging a Premiership hat trick.

http://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/premier-league/to-score-a-hat-trick

Sounds like a fun sort of bet to sweat each week, although some of the prices appear a bit skinny to get too excited about.  Makes sense as it's the kind of market the bookies usually rinse people on.

I can't remember what price they tend to stick players like Rooney/Aguero in as for hat tricks against lower opposition, but that would help to try and work it out.

Kinda linked to this - if you place a bet of £10+ on Prem Top Scorer with Ladbrokes they'll give you a free bet to the same amount every time your selected player scores a hat trick over the season.  Free way to play the market!  Smiley

Corals are running a bet that any footballer over the course of this weekends live games does the Mobot. They're offering 3/1.

There's at least five games being shown live including Cardiff City on Friday night. This is interesting for the following reason:

If you've never seen City before they do this thing called "do the Ayatollah". It's been going on for years and is mainly done as a goal celebration but can happen at anytime. As you can see from the photo, it wouldn't take much for the "Ayatollah" to become the "Mobot".

It's not even restricted to the players, even the owners do it.

And there's even been sightings of other players getting involved.

It's not even a bad bet considering how Footballers are likely to jump on the Olympic feelgood bandwagon. Worth a few pounds Mr Kendall?
