There's a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to RVP's transfer to manure in the footie markets.

I very rarely advocate betting on my own team unless it's the occasional advice to bet against them, but Arsenal @ 3.85 w/o the two mancs in the league looks decent to me although we do have a fairly tough start to the season. I've had a bit on now with the intention of pressing if we drift.

I'm anticipating a decent season which I certainly wasn't at this time last year and believe me Song is trivial when Arsene is the singer.

Let us try to regain some dignity & composure here, & discuss Arsenal, about whom you sound pleasingly optimistic this Season.

What is being suggested here? Arsenal, @ nearly 3/1 to, effetively, finish above Chelsea? Is that what it amounts to, assuming the two Manchester teams finish 1-2?

This sounds like hope over expectation to me. Massive loss to the side this evening. No guarantee that the replacements will settle and still have issues at the back for me. Chelsea - as much as I don't like them - have improved their squad as well and Torres might actually score an actual goal this season.

Spurs have sold modric tonight (he's flying to Madrid tomorrow), which will make a big difference but who knows what Levy will find in the next few days - Berbatov? Spurs still look a match on paper.

What are you basing it being a good price on? Or is it back with green-out intentions if you start well?

3-1 doesn't appeal to me in the slightest but I'm a one eyed spurs fan...what do I know?

Is there a price on it being "our year"? We like that market down the Lane.

And is there really someone in Celebrity Big Brother who is famous only for sending a text to Vernon Kay? Someone had better tell Mr Cooper that his stock has been well and truly scraped.

As I stated earlier I very rarely advocate a bet on Arsenal but the fact that we signed two left-footed strikers early in the transfer window suggested to some eagle-eyed supporters that we might possibly not have RVP for the forthcoming season.

The bet is actually with pressing-up in mind if we drop a few points during our first few games, I would rarely if ever be betting 11/4+ with thought of greening-out as opposed to betting 100/1+ on a golf tourney where it would be be a consideration from the outset, but I think you realise that and are just a little grumpy at losing Modric who you do not seem to have replaced a la AW this time around.

I'm looking forward to the spuds Spanish no-strikers formation this season, not to mention AVB's man-management skills, can't wait if truth be told.

Tikay, I'd probably sooner catch the Ebola virus than watch a series of Celebrity Big Brother, rest assured.

As for the feedback, I shall work on souping up my verbiage on wood pushing matters.

Daily Report as @ 0900, Thursday August 16th

No completed bets yesterday, so it is as you were.

We did make a few small investments, one on a specific goal celebration this weekend, (£45), & then 2 fun bets on this weekend's Golf which we deemed worthy of a whole £20 note.

We talked a lot though......

Annoyingly, gratingly, frustratingly, Celeb Big Brother got the TV Types excited. Final Warnings may be issued to the malcontents if it happens again.

More pleasingly, we saw a wonderful debate, which may yet run & run, between two heavyweights who debate with great eloquence, one a Spurs supporter, the other an Arsenal man. It was full of politeness & civility, with piercing little barbs snuck in. The perfect debate. Why can't everyone debate like that? Mention was made pleasingly of AVB's man management skills, Man Utd's ageing defence, & Spurs interest in the workhorse that is Berbatov. Splendid stuff.

And then......Dubai entered the fray & offered to lay some bets, Camel was already in, & Ralphy boy sounded like he was doing THEM a favour. I'm already on at that price, thank you, but give me 7/2 & I will take some if it pleases you sorta thing.

Camel was grumpy though, & having none of it. Watch this space, the Football season might just be more fun than we imagined.

What's coming up?

Only two things matter today.

Wyndham Golf, in which we have a small interest in Haas & 3G.

And Proper Cricket, the third test between England & South Africa, at the mecca of cricket, Lords.

We have that rarity, a MAX Bet on South Africa, thanks to Tighty, with encouragement from Dubai who seems to have a macabre desire to see me slide even further down the degen slope.

The weather is set fair - hot weather is forecast right through the weekend - though it remains to be seen if the Olympic Archers have made a difference to the pitch.

We are on at 19/10, & the best current price is similar, 9/5, though generally a shade shorter.

http://www.oddschecker.com/cricket/england-v-south-africa/england-v-south-africa-tests/england-v-south-africa-[3rd-test]/winner

I suppose much depends upon who wins the toss.  If England bat, 220 for plenty would be pleasing, if the visitors bat, 350 for not many please.

At the Wyndham the course was remodelled in 2007.

There have been hole in ones in 3/4 since. 2009,2010 & 2011.

Ladbrokes go evens a hole in one this year.

Noon start.
