News on the grapevine is that QPR have added Jose Bowinga to their ranks. Another rumour surfacing is that Barton is off to Marseille on a season long loan and Stephane Mbia, the Cameroon International, is heading to London. He would be another huge signing along with Ji Sung Park and keeping hold of Taarabat.

QPR are currently +37 points in the Premiership handicap on Betfair and I can see them easily getting 50 odd points this season. 89 points won it last year which means they would have to win 5 more games than last season with a vastly superior squad. I believe there are some QPR fans on here who might add something to this, I've had a cheeky £20 at 14s for a season long sweat. I may even top up if I can find the bet on other sites I use, according to Oddschecker only on PP, Betfred and Totesport are currently offering these bets.

Please note neither of these transfers have been confirmed by the Club as far as I know.

Thanks.

We have a number of QPR specialists amongst the Fred Regulars, so let's see what they have to say.

89 points won the league but not the handicap league.

Oh, how much won the Handicap League.
Newcastle got over 100
City, Swans, Norwich all in the 90s
Exact points depends on who the handicap was with but that's a decent guide.

interesting stat from twitter

Nerdy stat of the day: if you'd put £100 on every Premier League odds-on shot in August since 2004-2005 you'd be £1206 up now ...

 although you'd have lost in three of the last four seasons (2011/12 -£92, 2010/11 -£114, 2009-10 +£369, 2008-09 -£104).

Actually I think Newcastle must have won last seasons Handicap with 102 points!

Oh well, my moneys already down. Not sure QPR can get 60+ points but who knows.

Portsmouth looking to sign 10 players before Saturday's match.

This refers to the tip put up for Bournemouth to beat Portsmouth, due to the problems at Fratton Park.

Current prices are here, with Bournemouth still a shade under evens generally.....

http://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/league-1/portsmouth-v-bournemouth/winner

If Pompey were fielding the youth team again, then evens is fair enough.....but with these signings its a different story.
You've also got the backs against the wall mentality , and the passion of the home crowd to cope with.
Bournemouth (us!) have spent alot( relatively), in the summer, and we would be disappointed with less than play offs this season.
.... but we have a few injuries, the new players haven't really played together/jelled yet....and we managed an impressive 0-0 draw , going out on penalties, against the mighty Oxford in the first match of the season.
I couldn't back a Bournemouth win at the current price.

The Test Max.

The weather in London is heavily overcast, with low cloud. The sun is expected to shine this afternoon.

Hopefully, SA are skittled out quickly, or even declare before play starts (!), the sooner they get to bowl the better.

If its humid, that's the key thing

Not for thread - I am in enough Max trouble already - but if the commentary team at 10.30am says its humid, Philander to be top SA Wicket-taker. 3-1 Ladbrokes

i was tempted to put up philander yesterday actually, the pitch is quite slowish and seems like it would suit him well

i cant personally say 3-1 is a great price with some pretty stiff competition though

QPR's starting line up could be:

        Rob Green

Boswinga, Ferdinand, Mbia, Fabio

Dyer, Park, Taraabat, SW Phillips

        Cisse, Zamora

That seems pretty decent to me although I'm sure someone will offer up an alternative starting XI.

shame about rob green dyer and sw phillips in that

I reckon Hoilet will start.

There's no way SWP is a starter - he was pretty uninspiring last season.

The player who seems to have got mostly forgotten in the previews, because he's not a new signing but returning from injury, is Faurlin. He was immense for us before he got crocked and having him back is like a new signing in terms of improving the team. Also Diakite looked solid last season when he was on loan, so getting him on a perma-deal is good.

A declaration could be a stroke of genius !!.......given its a race against the sun coming out.

Hopefully the tailenders will treat it like a 20/20 match......

I quite fancy Man City and/or Man Utd to get over 100 points this season - is that a bet anyone has seen priced up anywhere?

Does not seem particularly humid, Rich.

You are not in trouble, either, I have every confidence in your selection. 100%.

Really shrewd bit of business. Good to see Southampton are competing in the transfer market alongside the other mid table hopefuls

I agree, having watched all 30 of his games for Penarol and 52 of his 58 at Bologna.

Rant alert

Rant : He may very well be the best thing since sliced bread but I do laugh when lots of fans say its a brilliant signing and all that when the vast majortiy will have seen him never/a couple of times at most

The lad is 21. Lets see in a few months before the judgements start

it is an opinion

i have seen him in full matches probably 8 or 10 times which is enough to make an opinion. He may not do well in the premiership but that doesnt make him a bad player either, i would be quite confident he will be at a "better" side this time next year based on what i have seen.
