"No QB since at least 2008 has a higher Total QBR than Colin Kaepernick through first four career starts."

Smiley

This week is the big test.

Patriots away.

I am stunned the 49ers have drifted since we backed them.

Fair enough, they lost to the Rams, but Kaepernick has been outstanding and Atlanta have proved they will be the weakest number 1 seed in years. (and they are still just about catchable - Falcons could easily lose 2 of 3, but we would need 49ers to win out if that happens.)

I think if the 48ers win on Sunday, they'll go favourites for the whole shebang.

If they lose they'll stay at the same price.

I suggest topping up slightly at above 7/1 on Betfair.

Thanks Keith.

This (combined with the original) is now the biggest bet Fred has ever made........

Our original bet was £150 @ 6.8, & we have now added.....

£100 @ 8.4, San Francisco 49-ers.

It would be quite a way to celebrate our 1st Birthday.

ON

 San Francisco 49ers 8.4 £100.00 £740.00
Ref: 23994075823 Bet placed: 17:55 11-Dec-12

How spooky, that could well have been my money you matched with there as I have laid the 8.4

I'm not so keen on it as another bet Tony tbh given the timing really. They are 6 point dogs at the Pats this weekend, prob have to put the Seattle game in at around pick em at the moment but to be determined a little by next weekends results. New England away and Seattle away are deffo near to the nut worst away games for a young QB for coaching/scheming and then hostility/home advantage reasons.

It's around evens on the double that San Fran lose this week and Seattle win, which sets up around an each of two game at the moment in Seattle, with the winners leading the Div, with a chance of getting a bye in the first week of the play offs and/or home advantage in their first play off game. Simply a massive game, San Fran deffo have to drift if they lose at New England but how much depends on the other results in that Conference but if they do lose both those games then they will probably be in 5th spot in the Conference with a game to go, so likely to play away in the first play off game and have the extra game that a number 1 or 2 seeding would make them avoid. Obv, they could win this week and  beat Seattle away and be favs to claim a top 2 spot and a bye in week one of the play offs. So would be 2nd favs in the outright one way and probably double figures the other way.

You don't want to be going to Green Bay or Chicago at this time of year for weather reasons, nor the Giants or Seattle coz they are v tough places to play.

Two conferences, AFC and NFC

4 divisions in each North, West, East and South

Each with 4 teams

16 x 2 =32

Originally the AFL and the NFL were competitor leagues until a merger, and then two conferences

A couple of times a decade the league expands -  the last ones were the Texans, Panthers, Jags that would lead to a realignement of divisions but some big rivalries remain untouched

big rivalries

kansas/denver/oakland
green bay/minnesota
dallas/washington. dallas/philly
jets/patriots

etc etc

PS - thanks Phil. Makes the eyes water, this NFL stuff, it really does.

Leave me alone, I'll get it eventually. Truth is, LOTS of Freddies don't understand it either, so this is all grist to the mill. The only difference is I have no ego to worry about, so I don't mind asking. Wink

So, it is you v me, eh?

Good luck!

The whole of american football is split into two conferences: American and National

They are then put into groups of four divisions: north, east, south and west.

Loving the WHL photos. The fans still sing about the Shelf (the east stand), where I generally sit. This is the side the cameras are on when you see a game on the proculvision.

I was just going to mention the Watson-Eubank fight. Lord Sugar's reign as chairman also saw us play host on alternate weeks to the London Monarchs American Football team.

One of the NFC's biggest names played for them...

Tighty?

It's been a divisional rivalry since the 60s

Whilst a lot of rivalries are geographic, Dallas being in the NFC East is a geographical anomaly borne out of the league's history

Because they are so marketable a franchise (lots of casual fans, biggest franchise by value) they are basically unmoveable as none of the division teams wants to lose them and their revenue when they come town.

Similarly the Cowboys will never come to London sadly. No NFL team would give up a home game with them for London

As Mr Tightend started it. Yesterdays spring onions?

Evening hector.

Let me enlighten you as to yesterday's three spring onions, "in before Tal" as it were.

Whan annotating chess moves, three exclamation markls - "!!!" - are used to denote a move of particular brilliance. I mean, really, surely EVERYONE knew that?

So, just as we upload ice-cream pics when I get stuff round my neck, I thought I'd introduce the spring onions to denote a betting occasion of particular note, or brilliance, even. And you made Fred history, such as I recall anyway, by picking winners three days in a row.

So, you got the ultimate accolade - 3 spring onions.

PS - I do make some of the photo links mischievously tenuous & difficult, & often wonder if folks "get" them, or just assume I have lost the plot..... (Think that is called a "pick 'em")

It's probably time to see the Divs and Conferences redone tbh, it's just a little outdated really.

Tho I was trying to sell the virtues of a foul in snooker being worth 8 points instead of 4 at the weekend too.

Yes Perry arrived and North London was immediately pie-less

Slightly ironic for a fridge, really...

haha, I've laid a few others too so no worries, will be a pleasure to pay for Fred karma if they win.I still won't mind if San Fran win. I just thought today was a half decent time to get some in , esp after New England's rout of Houston last night making this weekends game seemingly tougher.
