Oscars voting for the final awards has only just begun - voting papers are going out now and don't have to be back until Feb 19th.

I was told ( by someone that bets these markets for a firm) that the voting dates were different, if it is Feb 19th does that mean all the other main awards nights are over by that date?

If it does then I have got it totally wrong or totally misunderstood and obv the previous awards are deffo a good indicator. Argo could well be a decent bet to turn the fav over then.

cheers

Don't know how someone who bets these things for a firm can get this wrong when it's clearly stated on the Oscars website.

Quote
Final ballots are mailed to voting members in late-January and are due back to PricewaterhouseCoopers the Tuesday prior to Oscar Sunday for final tabulation.

http://www.oscars.org/awards/academyawards/about/voting.html

well it was months ago, he prob got it wrong and then found out.

Oscars voting for the final awards has only just begun - voting papers are going out now and don't have to be back until Feb 19th.

Mea culpa. Andrew, do you see Lincoln getting only a couple of Oscars this year (the kind of Slumdog surprise? Seriously, who watched Benjamin Button and thought "this is one of the all-time great films"?)? Motion Picture could well be a good one to oppose.

The wheels do appear to be falling off Lincoln - it doesn't win the Golden Globe or the Producer's Guild Award and yet is still 1/2 for the Oscar. Certainly worth opposing. The Screen Actor's Guild awards are today and the Director's Guild on Saturday. Lincoln does seem to be a good 'actor's film' (Daniel Day Lewis, Tommy Lee Jones, Sally Field) which would be a good shout for the SAG's best ensemble cast award (its Best Film) but in recent years this award has simply gone to the film with the biggest cast, and Harvey Weinstein has run a recent ad campaign for Silver Lining's Playbook showing 13 cast members. It is also nominated in every acting category at the Oscars so if it wins tonight then that's another spanner in the works. Les Mis also ticks the 'big cast' box.

The black mark for me against Argo is that it's not going to win any of the other big six Oscars - the only other nomination is Alan Arkin for Supporting and he's not going to win that. The only other recent film to scoop Best Picture and nothing else was Crash and that was almost immediately touted as a serious misstep by the Academy.

Add in the fact that the Academy members are not allowed to publicly discuss who they're going to vote for and, in summary, no one knows anything.

should it just be a lay of Lincoln?

Day Lewis and Spielberg are going to win. Will an Academy voter think a) Well that means Lincoln is clearly the best film or b) Lincoln's not worth a sweep of the top awards - let's give the other one to something else.

I don't think they go a) two times out of three, so Lincoln at 1/2 has to be a lay.

EDIT: though with the Betfair market right now the lay price is 1.68 and there's only £40 there.

i hate you paul butler

(very very obscure leeds reference circa 2005ish)

I got there.

Wouldnt mind if we got off the coach and replaced this imitation team ASAP

i was quite happy with it

to say it would be the highlight of my weekend would sound sad

i lost a fair whack yesterday all in all and have spent most of the morning unblocking a toilet so does not have a great deal of opposition

I'm with you there. Washing machine has broken afer just 13 months (one outside warranty). Ordered a new one and found my credit card blocked because of suspicious activity (aka booking Vegas for June - balla brag etc yes yes...) so used debit card instead. Now I'm waiting for a call back from my bank's fraud team to reactivate my card.

Plus yesterday's racing was a car crash and I'm now watching Neil blinking Warnock's smug face.

Sigh...

wish the usual debit card operations rang me yesterday to be honest!

Lol fair point!

Was just about to type "my one remaining hope is a banzai on Lisowski in the snooker shootout."

Sigh...

"Was that the great chest and volley goal by Mark Hughes?"

Wasn't this the semi at wembley?  First batch of semis at Maine Road was 3-3 followed by 4-1 or something in the replay?

The semi with the volley was deffo at Wembley in the first game to equalise in extra time. Man U then went on to win the replay at Maine Road sans Hughes volley.

The 3-3 draw was 90' I believe, with Utd again winning in the replay.

Looking at upcoming fixtures and see watford are playing mid week at bottom of the table Bristol city.  Watford are in red hot form right now, and although Bristol city got a result today I think a lot of people will be backing watford at 6/5.  I'd expect the price to fall a bit when it comes to game time. Watford are the leagues top away scorers, Bristol city are the have the leagues worst defence.

I backed watford today so obviously have a soft spot for them, fred didn't go for that bet though but went for the over 2.5 goals choice.  I think it's a little short here at 4/6 maybe, well not short but at that price it doesn't tickle my fancy.

Watford goals over 1.5 @ 5/6 I like @ bet365
Watford win at 6/5 I like @paddy power
Watford to score in both halves I like abit more at 15/8 @paddy power

Thoughts from blondes as to as to which bet if any suits fred are more than welcome.

Some decent bets there.

over 2.5 goals is 4/5 and I think that is value too, considering Watford are scoring for fun, bang in form and Bristol City can not keep a clean sheet. It is probably a max for me on Tuesday.

Doctor Who just scored for Oldham!

Edit: oh it's THAT Matt Smith! He played about half a season for Solihull Moors and scored a goal a game before Oldham came in. Tighty probably knows his boot size so I'll stop talking Smiley

42 points in the rugby

Unbelievably frustrating to watch Nottingham butcher two tries, and turn down kicks at goal when 15 points ahead!
