Do we have any action on the Papal betting yet?

I think we're looking at a very open field here and I'm opposing the betting front runners.
There has been a lot of talk about the church maybe going with an African, Asian or South American Pope to try and stay current and I think there is some mileage in this thought.

Points to bear in mind;

1. Pope Benedict appointed about 40% of the current crop of Cardinals and they are predominantly conservative, traditionalists like himself.
2. Historically, Italians have dominated the papacy and about 20% of the Cardinals are currently Italian.
3. Nearly 50% of the Catholic population is located in central and South America.

So we have a church that may want to break somewhat with tradition and appoint an outsider. But they also want to be quite conservative. And they have an Italian predisposition. And their power base is South America.

Hello Cardinal Leonardo Sandri!!!!!!

69 year old Argentinian cardinal born of Italian parents. (Good age profile, South American, Italian flavour. Nice!!!!)
He was also formerly Subsitute for General Affairs (basically 3rd in command of the Catholic faith) thus giving him a position to build up his power base and is well known to traditionalists.

He is fairly well respected in the betting market, ranging from 15/2 - 14/1 with most of the major books, which doesn't appeal too much.

But God be praised for those US heathens Pinnacle. For verily they lay our holy man @ 119/5.
Let us smite them!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ha, what a brilliant Post!

Our only Papal Corries (I initially thought you had mis-spelt "PayPal") are Tighty &, I would assume, Tal & Andrew. Possibly Chompy, too. The Fen Folk get up to all sorts.

I'm C of E, so I'm going to abstain on this one.

All I will say is, if Fred picks the right one, it would make quite an ice breaker if anyone betting here were to meet the new Il Papa.

I find the idea of winning money out of the Catholic Church deeply arousing.

Also fantastic post Dazzler.

Pinnacle is so perfect.

they have a limit, if you bet on something to that limit the price is automatically moved.

no faffing around refering or being turned down.

You bet, they take bet, they change the market, everyone is happy.

Simple yet perfect.

I'm a good Catholic Oirish boy and very rarely imbibe. However when I do, I tend to cane it somewhat.
It'll be whisky. And lots of it.
I see you've just moved the market. God have mercy on our souls.

Just back from the West Ham/Spurs match and have enjoyed seeing Fred on fine form, been an enjoyable read.  Jääskeläinen easily the man of the match and was unreal in that second half.  I really don't understand the dislike for Parker, personally for me he's still one of the first names on the team sheet, when you see him live you see how much of the donkey work he does, needs to practice shooting still though.  Spurs really didn't play that well tonight, very disjointed and miss a creative pressnece a la Modric really badly.  They also have a real strikers problem.  I would urge caution backing them in the coming game as I don't think you'll see too much value.  In fact, and this hurts me, there might be some real value on the red side of the bet.

it maybe a co incidence but spurs have now got 3 late goals in recent weeks after parker has been taken off

i would never doubt his effort but having to dive all over the pitch as a midfielder is a pre requesite of his usually because he has such a heavy first or second touch

He's not the player he was two seasons ago but the diving around thing is something he's always done. He has tried to play more of a Carrick role since he has come back but it hasn't worked. He is definitely a second choice in that position behind Sandro.

Daily Summary, @ 10.25am, Tuesday February 26th

We made a very pleasing profit of £136 yesterday.

Just two bets completed, & both won with a bit to spare.

Tighty told us "India will win this tomorrow, forget 1/2, it should be 1/10".

He was right, too, an 8 wicket victory with several sessions to spare. +£50, well done Tighty.

Then we had arguably the shortest recommend ever, an exercise in brevity if ever I saw one.

10/1 Tottenham

Get on.

Take a bow Mr Camel. +£86.

Interesting that yesterday's two successful tipsters are both on serious diets right now, & have shed over 2 stone between them. Perhaps there is a clue to successful tipping there?

We invested a little in Lazio for the Europa Cup, & a sort of Mini-Banzai on Bingham in the World Open Snooker.

Our overall ROI, from Day One, has now crept back over 3%.

In the Championship tonight, a team that has not won for a month..out of form, lacking confidence and with key flair players not performing, also likely the top scorer misses the game tonight, is at home to a side with a newish manager

The away side is picking up in form, and has a "marquee" £8m striker that since his transfer in August has scored 20 goals in 30 games

Before I oddschecked I priced it up as

Home Evens
Draw 5/2
Away 11/4

The actual prices are

Home 7/10
Draw 3
Away 9/2

To my mind the away team is a point and a half too long. Sadly the 9/2 is with Sky Bet and Stan James

The away team has only lost 4 of 16 away games all season, with nine draws

The correct course could be to lay the home team for a liability of £40 at 1.76 on Betfair

Good points Horsey and Tal

I would say the stat Horseplayer has brought up is just coincidence, another coincidence could be Spur's long unbeaten run in the league and stamping out of the early season shipping late goals has coincided with Parker's return to fitness and form.  I agree with Tal he hasn't hit the form from a couple of seasons ago, but if the squad is all fully fit and AVB plays a two holding midfielder system, I'm still putting Parker in with Sandro.  Still, it's a squad game now and those two with Dembele are a lovely trio to be able to rotate.
