I sometimes wonder what the coaches/captains are thinking in the IPL. Some of the decions involving overseas players is mind boggling.
I never got the non inclusion of Shah today or the picking of Mitch Marsh ahead of Luke Wright/Finch for Pune. Marsh came in down the order and didn't even ball. The stick an explosive Wright or Finch will deffo help with the balance of the team.
Lets hope Azhar Mahmood doesn't go banzai tomorrow.

So did Farnborough play an outfielder in goal or not?
What price did they start?

Mumbai won today, as underdogs, against Chennai
In the first game, chasing a big total against Bangalore, they kept Pollard one of the biggest hitters in the game back and he eventually came in with 5 balls to go, 10 wanted
They lost off the last ball after Pollard hit two balls for 5
Utterly baffling stuff.

Yep, I get they wanna save him for the last couple of overs but if your behind the rate get your most powerful batsman in.
Thought Dhoni was gonna get Chennai home today, good job Pollard's 7 foot 9!

I think the captains/coaches are under incredible pressure from their owners to give exposure to all their Indian players. The owners are like Abramovic on heat. They get more TV time than most of the players which isn't a bad thing when it's Rajasthan and you get Shilpa Shetty on the box every couple of mins. Ponting is as experienced as it gets, there's no way he'd send in a guy like Rayudu over Pollard with 6 overs left unless he felt like had absolutely had to.
Did anyone see the Rahane catch in the Royals/Daredevils game today? Incredible! Sadly I can't find a video or picture though.

In cycling, Nairo Quintana of the Movistar team has just won the Tour of the Basque Country after an impressive performance in the final day's time-trial. One of the strongest climbers in the field, he managed to finish second to the TT king Tony Martin, ahead of cyclists more suited to racing against the clock (ie. Alberto Contador (Saxo-Tinkoff), Richie Porte (Sky)). In so doing, he edged ahead of Porte in the general classification and shortlisted himself as a contender for one of this year's grand tours.
The 2013 Tour de France is one for the pure climbers, which is why Chris Froome (Sky) will start as the favourite with Bradley Wiggins (Sky) supposedly targeting the flatter Giro d'Italia. Contador is close behind in the odds department at a shade under 2/1. After watching Quintana's performances in both the Tour of the Basque Country and the Volta a Catalunya (where he won a mountain stage and finished runner-up to a breakaway in the other), as well as Froome's and Contador's in the Tirreno-Adriatico, I believe that Quintana is the strongest climber out of the three.
There are other great climbers in this year's Tour de France: Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) and Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha) are both formidable in the mountains. Unfortunately, they do not have great teams providing support, which is important over the 21 stages of the Grand Boucle. Also, they are not noted time-triallists, and this year there will be 2 ITT stages. Richie Porte (Sky) has been very impressive this year as well, but he will have to take a back seat while Froome gets the first bite at the apple.
Quintana has just shown his mettle in a time-trial setting, and is surrounded by an incredible team at Movistar, with climbers like Alejandro Valverde, Benat Intxausti, Jose Herrada and Rui Costa to back him up. The only intangible is whether Movistar decide to give him a chance to lead the team, or whether they will choose to remain loyal to the veteran Valverde. Valverde had a bright start to the season, but a crash in the Volta a Catalunya has set him back a bit. One thing is certain ... if he does not perform in the Pyrenees, Quintana will quickly be given the chance to stamp his authority on the race (such as happened with Valverde and Cobo in the Vuelta last year).
All the above leads me to conclude that Quintana has a decent shot at winning the Tour de France, with a podium place more than likely. The value comes with Satan offering 50/1 on Quintana winning (1/5 odds E/W 1,2,3,), whereas Bet365 have him at 13/1 (with the rest jumping between 20s and 33s). Coral are also offering 40/1, but I'd be inclined to think that even 33/1 is giving away money for one of this year's best riders. It also makes me laugh how Satan don't even bother to spell his name correctly (Nario?). Just waiting to be punished.
I recommend £10 E/W @ 50/1 (Stan James).

Ok fair enough. Looked weird as they're the same price for outright win.

IPL day 4 update:
Frustratingly for Fred, Rajasthan decided against selecting our man Owais for their first game and nearly paid the price after a middle order collapse left them at par when 180+ was looking likely. Fortunately for them, depleted Dehli fell six runs short despite looking favourites with 10 balls to go.
The other game saw our boys Mumbai pick up a creditable win against Chennai in Chennai. The fact it was in Chennai meant Mumbai was missing Malinga so the win was all the more impressive as he is arguably the finest T20 bowler in the world. A result that bodes well for our chances of collecting.
Today's early game sees our other tip Pune take on the Kings XI Punjab in a game with various points of interest for Fred. Pune are coming off the back of a poor performance so I can see them bringing in Luke Wright to bat in the top three. He can be destructive so a quick 20 and out would suit. Top batsman tip Marlon Samuels gets another chance to make inroads into Chris Gayles lead as well. A good performance would be a big bonus as Gayle is a guy who could get away at the head of that market very quickly. The Kings XI feature another protagonist in our top Englishman bet - Azhar Mahmood - who is somewhat of a maverick. How he'll go on any given day is anyone's guess. I don't see him as a real threat overr the course of 16 matches regardless.
The other game of the day features Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hydrabad and has no direct connotations to any of Fred's sweats as far as I can see.

Morning Mr T.
It will be interesting to see if my theory on top scoring half pans out in todays 2 matches. In the first game Harlequins play Munster. Harlequins have lost 3 games on the bounce and this is the only 1/4 final that I thought could have an upset. I am sorely tempted to suggest Munster but there is a price for low points that is way out of line so will stick with that while my recovery continues.
Suggest under 48.5 points £30 @ 7/10 with Bwin. I think this is more like a 1/3 shot.

Morning hector.
Barely out of bed here, head all fuzzy....despite the fact that you only just Posted, but if I read it correctly, that price has gone already - they quote 1/2 now. Much worse than 7/10, much better than 1/3. I think......
Are we still interested @ 1/2?
