I misspoke, as they did play in Zug yesterday. All games were again drawn, so it remains as you were. Radjabov had the advantage against Leko, which is encouraging. Nearly is only nearly, but it is nearly nonetheless.

The crosstable:

Rest day is TODAY.

Radjabov plays tomorrow against American Gata Kamsky

Not sure what he is so happy about. When he first won the US Championship, he used to look like this:

Tal bloke.

Thanks for the Chess Report.

I'm not too concerned at our man's start, he was an 11/1 shot, this is not a Carlsen @ 4/6 jobbie.

Can you remind me (code for "tell me, because I don't know") the nationalities of all 12 players please?

PS - Will reply to your PM today, they built up a bit in my absence late last week.

No problem.

When proposing the Radjabov bet, I hoped he would be within a point by round 6 which I thought would be 3/6. He needs to win a game for that, but it is, as you imply, "only a bluey"

Morozevich - Russian
Ponomariov - Ukraine
Topalov - Bulgaria
Mamedyarov - Azerbaijan
Karjakin - Russia (but used to play for Ukraine)
Giri - Netherlands
Caruana - Italy
Kasimdzhanov - Uzbekistan
Nakamura - USA
Kamsky - USA
Radjabov - Azerbaijan
Leko - Hungary

Will you be doing that to Tonji in the Tour de France?

Recommend £150 or more if u want  Arsenal to beat Man U @6/4 boyles, Betfred

We will be laying this back nearer the time once either market overreacts to the the fact United (most likely) will have already won the league and its a must win for Arsenal. Expecting silly short prices on Arsenal if Utd win tonight ie sub 2.2

They are already 2.42/2.44 on bf and market will only go one way if Utd win as it always overestimates the "nothing to play for" factor. If the market goes the other way if they don't win tonight we will also trade out for a loss if need be.

Thanks Mr S.

Congrats on having 20% of Trigg, very nice.....

I've placed that bet, can you remind me to trade out if & when we need to. If it costs us £20 or £30 to trade, that's no disaster, equally we could pinch a few bob risk-free if it goes the other way.

We have £150 @ 6/4, BetFred, Arsenal to beat Man U this Sunday.

ON

Bet placed, its reference is 124/130
Bet ref: 124/130 £150.00 Single
Market Selection Price Hcp
Arsenal v Man Utd
Match Betting
 Arsenal 6/4
Total stake £ 150.00
Estimated return £ 375.00

Full stake £ 150.00
Full estimated return £ 375.00

Yup, no complaints for a fiver.

I was just a little curious as to the geographical bias - or so it seemed - towards what we used to call Eastern Bloc countries. Is that representative of top-level Chess as a whole?

A film was on Sky Movies last night which would have interested you - "Knights of the South Bronx".

Sounds like the plot of Dangerous Minds, where Michelle Pfeiffer goes into an inner city school and teaches the unruly pupils about poetry and how it relates to music (featuring the Dylan-Dylan contest).

Best chess film (I know, I know...) is called Searching for Bobby Fischer (it used to be called Innocent Moves). Has an excellent cast: Ben Kingsley, Laurence Fishburne, Joe Mantegna, WilliamH Macy. It is the true story of a young American lad who was billed as the next Bobby Fischer.

Josh Waitzkin didn't quite make it to the very top, although he is an International Master. It is a surprisingly realistic depiction of the junior chess scene.

NBA Playoffs start tonight...

Brooklyn nets are notorious fast starters especially at home but tend to run out of steam as the game goes on...for anyone watching the game  I will look for them to take a nice big early lead as well and back the bulls on the spread( anything Bulls +10 is a dream ) as their defence and fight will reel the Nets into a close one..

1st QTR Brooklyn are 22 of their last 32 at home..the two they played against the bulls at home ( last one on the 4th April) have been won by 10 and 13 points....they took the 4 game series for 1st qtr 3/4... looks like Noah is out for the Bulls and his their main defence against All star Lopez... Deron Williams at point is playing as well as ever and big Reggie is a rebounding demon...

Suggest something medium size Nets -1.5 around 1.86

Brooklyn won the first Qtr 25-14 and although Noah started it was obvious he was struggling and he didn't play for long... went as expected and Nets built up a big lead..Bulls Defence was unusually bad and as a contest was over by the third qtr... managed to get on Bulls +16.5 and +22.5 as the lead got as high as 27.... took bulls 4th qtr -2.5 as obv the Nets would take the foot off although they played their starters in the 4th qtr a lot longer than I expected.... Nets won by 17 which was a bit frustrating for my +16.5 especially as Robinson had 6 seconds to waltz the ball into the net instead he decided to try a 35 footer sigh..but 3/4 the game and 6/8 inc the Knicks game was good overall...hope some of you got on...

Nothings really changed from Saturday...Noah will prob start but his still struggling... 1st qtr price not up yet but judging from the early game lines -1.5 Brooklyn looks about right...

Can't see any reason not to put this up again exactly the same.... Fast starting high on confidence at home team v struggling slow starting team with a dress rehersal from Saturday at only -1.5 cant be bad...

Should have a grand on this imo.

Only one way the market is going to go and although you have put £150 on, the stake is a fraction of that if you are going to green out.

Yuh, is there any point having £150 on if you're looking to trade? With Camel here, stick a bag on @ 6/4 and then you've got something to go to war with. Even if Arsenal are still around 2.5 you can lay back for about a push.

Zero opinion on the match itself, but can quite easily see Arsenal starting at 11/10.

No chance in the world they start 15/8.

6/4 all gone.

I haven't done the maths, but if your intention is to trade, isn't there a case for taking the shorter price on betfair anyway?

I assume Tikay is right up at/near 5% commission, so if you win on the betfair lay, that 5% is going to take a big chunk of a move from 6/4 to 5/4.  If you had a choice between 2.38 and 6/4, I am guessing 6/4 wins, but must be a lot closer if you could get 2.42*?

* all this is a bit theoretical now, as taking the 2.38 on betfair must be better than the current 7/5 best price.
