I think it is far harder to make the cut in a major. At a rough guess to make any cut you have to be in the top 60+ ties. At an ordinary golf tournament you may have 25 of the top 100 players in the world. At a major tournament you will likely have 90% of the worlds top 100 players which would make it far harder to make it into the top 60.

Another golf question, this time for Doobs.

When placing multiple e/w bets on an event like The Open do you factor in the reduced equity for each subsequent bet as only one person can win it and only 8 (for example) can place.

I don't think you can be thinking about it right.  

We can't be reducing equity on one bet by placing more bets on different people.  My equity on the Stenson bet is the same if I back Dufner or if I don't back Dufner.  The fact I have backed Dufner has no bearing on Stenson's performance at all.

Normally backing so many runners in a betting event would be a really stupid thing to do, and bound to be -EV.  My opnion is that it is definitely +EV here because of the very generous each way terms.

It shouldn't affect expected value; I'd think the only thing it increases is exposure.

Actually, I suppose if your first bet is getting 3/1 on an even money shot and your second bet is getting 3/1 on a 2/1 shot, your overall EV would decrease as an average, but it would still be positive, which is what we are after.

The nut result is to have every horse in the field at a better than expectation price and just play Sklansky bingo with a kettle, some skimmed milk and a packet of chocolate hobnobs.

Quite hard to do that in a 120 runner field, mind.

Official Bad News.

As of midnight tonight, it is time for Mere to have a well-deserved rest from being the Fred Bettor Placer Bloke, & he plans to have a full break for the weekend, & a bit of a rest going forward, so I shall have to resume the role.

BIG thanks to him for looking after the shop in my absence, I think he did a terrific job, & had great tact & diplomacy in handling the various recommendations, & the whole thing is incredibly time-consuming.

The changeover takes place at Midnight tonight.

There are some weird nicknames in college sports, Georgia tech springs to mind who are the ramblin wreck which I believe Norman chad refers to often on wsop coverage.
