excellent article on Hurricane Fly
Good article.
That's the sort of stuff I've been "wittering" for a while now...
4/1 long gone on Hills and Betfair. Anyone got winner or titanbet?
Happy New Year everyone.

Average bet size since Feb 2012 is £32.
Interesting that December's average was £25, probably a sign of the restrictions taking effect, coupled with the free bets earned, rather than our banker being tiddlier of bottom.

Hi Tony, we squeaked home again last night, by 0.5 points, but it's fun at the end when u know if the oppo score a two pointer u get ya money back, a three pointer and we're in OT and the bet carries on and if they miss u scoop. I had a max bet on last night, quite a lot went wrong, Wade and Cole both injured during game, very unusual in basketball, so we weathered the storm nicely.
Last day of the PP offer, I've put a middle arse bet on San Antonion -12. Big handicap, so I was in two minds, then I remembered Brooklyn are now shite (we backed them for the title as a bit of a banzai, oops) and the Spurs (down Tal,
the
Spurs) always thrash 'em, average of over 19 points in the last 5 meetings.
Thanks Jeff.
We have £22 @ 10/11, Spurs -12.
BET PLACED
Nice one sailed home with 9 points to spare. Thanks.

San Antonio win 113-92, easy cover of the 12-point handicap, we're well up all game. Chalk up the first fred win of 2014.
Tx to Mere for the prompt reports and back of shop work, Tighty for all his reports n work, the contributors, esp the elders who know their stuff and make it worth fighting through the Tal Spurs updates, and of course to Captain Tiddlearse for making this a fun thread. Happy new year freddies, a delightful place to spend an hour a day learning and profiting each day

Happy New Year everyone.
I opened a Winner yesterday specifically to get the 4-1, get a £25 free bet as well but not until the original bet is settled so if anyone is doing it and wants that bet for Cheltenham then make sure your 1st bet is for £25 and is sooner to ensure you get the free bet ASAP.
Happy New Year to all, it's been fun and I've learnt loads. A big thank you to everyone for that, some stuff u just can't buy.

OK. So it's the new year. And I've been drinking quite a bit. And I've been placing a lot of Auld Lang Syne bets. And I'm waiting for the Tour of Australia to start, so I can I give you guys a hot tip on the cycling.
But there are two interesting bets that are taking my fancy at the moment, and I need some advice from those in the know:
In the NBA, Atlantic Division, I already have money invested in Boston to win the lot. For all sorts of reasons, the fancied franchises, the Knicks and the Nets do not look like offering the goods this year (injuries, motivation, etc.). Unfortunately for my original bet, Boston (although promising) just don't look polished enough to win the league, which makes me think that Toronto at 5/2 are going to run away with it. Maybe not value, but a decent price for the taking. Any thoughts?
More speculative is my bet on Birmingham to finish in the playoff places (25/1 @ Bet365). Note the difference on Oddschecker between Top 6, where the line is a general 16/1, and Playoffs. Birmingham have not lost in their last nine games and are only 7 points outside of the playoff places. Furthermore, in their next three fixtures, they're playing both Barnsley and Yeovil at home. Obviously, I'm hoping for a big turnaround, but it looks like one's been going on under our noses for a while yet,
a la
Derby. Again, I'll leave this one at the mercy of the elders.
I'm drunk. I'm going to bed. If anyone agrees ... let's talk about stakes when I wake up (+/- 12pm).
PS. Can't wait till the cycling starts.

Fiorentina to finish top 3 in Serie A.
They are currently placed 4th 3 points behind 3rd placed team Napoli and a further 8 points behind 2nd placed Roma. Ignore Juve best squad and too far ahead.
Fiorentina play the best football in the league and have the current top scorer in Rossi. They've been unlucky with they marquee signing Mario Gomez being inured for most of the season, however he is due to come back in the next 2 weeks.
In the January transfer window they are looking to buy Domenico Criscito from Zenit, Italian international left back to help shore up the backline.
This is a really good bet as I can see them staying top 4 and an excellent chance of making the top 3. Murmurs in Italy that Higuain could be leaving Napoli for Chelsea which would obviously be huge for this bet. This is just rumourville tho.
http://www.oddschecker.com/football/italy/serie-a/italy-serie-a/top-3-finish
Edit:
Just seen you can get 11/2 on Fiorentina qualifying for next years Champions league group stages with BWIN. Does not make sense, BWIN go 5/2 for top 3 finish and 11/2 to qualify for champions league group stages. Top 2 qualify automatically and 3rd place team has to play a qualifier in Serie A.
Make it £60.
http://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/fiorentina/to-qualify-for-champions-league
Thanks.
How come you are you so well-versed in the Italian football market, is it a speciality of yours, or are you Italian by birth?
I hope I never got confiused, but we have had £50 @ 5/2, Fiorentina to finish Top 3, Seria A.
BET PLACED
Always been a huge fan since the early 90's and thats where my love for the great man Maldini comes from!
You put the right bet on that I recommended. However, I was going through the specials on oddschecker and found the Fiorentina to qualify for the Champions league @ 11/2 which is an even better bet. I did edit a bit later so understandable if you missed it. This is the link:
http://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/fiorentina/to-qualify-for-champions-league
Morning Mr Maldini.
There seems to be some confusion over exactly what the bet is, see the various Posts in the last few pages by, amongst others, DoubleUp & Chompy.
Can you clarify for us, please?

Firstly Happy New Year to all and big thanks to Mere for all the spreadsheet updates ever since the start of this top man
Like another horse at Southwell, infact i have been waiting for this horse to turn up at Southwell for a long time.
BET SUGGESTION
12.15 southwell
I cant have Push Me as the fav here, regressive not run here for a long time ran twice here once ok once awful not a great trainer and probably early fav due to Adam Kirby being booked for the ride.
Royal Marskell is unexposed but ran an absolute shocker last time, sire stats not very good here can easily ignore.
Bethan is unexposed as well and has a good chance of adapting to the surface as well, however ran awfully when fav only 20 days ago and the jockey does not ride winners here as a rule.
I like PERIVALE with a saver on SHORT SHRIFT
Positives for Perivale :
Trainer does well here
Street Crys do very well here
Races up with pace usually a must here
Easiest opposition has faced
This is an awful race
Negatives :
Horse starting to look regressive/slightly iffy
SUGGEST £40 AT 9-2 vcbet (4-1 fine)
SAVER ON SHORT SHRIFT at 9-2 £10 365 (not been with Fahey long looks a stayer, unexposed sire good here)
Personally i make Perivale 5-2 in here and Short Shrift 7-2

suggest £100
Richard Hannon Jnr to beat Richard Hannon Snr's 2013 UK winners' tally
ladbrokes under future horse racing 2014 racing specials 2-1
hills 5-4 from 2-1 this morning same bet lads were 3-1 but 2-1 is still more than fair i make this about a 50-50 shot gives a nice year sweat as well
reasoning in a bit dont think the 2-1 will last to long
Hannon snr had 235 winners this calendar year obviously a lot but Hannon Junior has been doing a fair chunk of the work already for years so no reason to expect the strike rate to drop, throw in the fact Hannon Junior has 40 2 year olds coming in from another arab leading owner i struggle to see why the philosophy of lots of runners will change.
Thanks John.
I think that might be a very good bet indeed @ 2/1, but we shall see.
As you note, Wm Hill currently offer 5/4 for this, still available this moirning. Ladbrokes seem to have withdrawn the Market as of this morning - or at least, I can no longer find it.
We took the 2/1 yesterday, for £100, so that's booked.

Lads went as low as 5-4 last night before taking the market down.
It is quite hard to price up but the more i look at it the more i think the price "should" be about 10-11ish

That is a big bet by your usually conservative standards, you must really fancy this one.
We are on, but it got a bit complicated......
First, here is the Market as of now......
http://www.oddschecker.com/horse-racing-betting/southwell/12:15/winner
PERIVALE is now 4/1 best, but we took that, for £40, as you stated that was OK.
The saver - SHORT SHRIFT - Bet365 would only allow me £2.22, so I needed to top up elsewhere. The best I could get was 4/1 (BetFred) so I had £8 @ 4/1 with them in addition to the £2.22 @ 9/2 with Bet365.

Southwell tommorow
1.25 Masterful act will be hard to beat but LAYL is worth a small bet at 12-1
suggest £15 win 12-1 LAYL 1.25 southwell vcbet
more to follow prices dependent
We booked this yesterday, soon after you put it up, but I was very busy elsewhere all day & evening, so I never Posted a reply.
31/12/2013 GBP 15.00 Single: 3 LAYL @ 12/1
Betid 35976405600 Time: 16:06 Bet Type: Single Stake: £ 15.00
So we got the £15 @ 12/1.
Current prices are here, showing LAYL is now 7/1 generally, but 8/1 with everyone's favourite bookmaker.....

Wm Hill Offer
The "MONEY BACK IF 2nd" Offer (Mobile ONLY) applies today at Cheltenham & Musselburgh.
Note that the 13.20 Chelters only has 4 runners, & the 3.05 Chelters only has 3 runners, so the Offer does not apply in either of those two.
2 races are covered @ Musselburgh, but neither look suitable for the Offer.
