Baseball
we have a free bet to use with Wlliam Hill
I almost backed the Balitmore Orioles in the AL East last year. By posting winning records in 2012 and 2013, the Orioles achieved the feat of back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 1996 and 1997. I have a soft spot for them because they are competing in one of the two toughest divisions in baseball against huge money and the manager Buck showalter has built them into a contender, slightly moneyball style. a blue collar team in a white collar division, and thats reflected in the markets
thread was on the red sox and the rays last year, and had great runs on both
redarmi has us "short" the yankees this year
I read this guys stuff a lot, very well informed
http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/24506108/season-predictions-how-the-mlb-division-races-will-shake-out
It stood out like a sore thumb that he had the orioles to win the al east this year, as the consensus is the red sox repeat, the rays contend and the yankees are always supported
http://www.oddschecker.com/baseball/mlb/american-league-east/winner
william hill 9-1, its 9.0 in a tiny betfair market
if chosen, this bet could give you a six month free bet sweat
nerd alert
i also have a soft spot for the quirky ball park, hemmed in on all sides in pitching distance of the port and really nicely modernised with an eye on the past. Its on my MLB ballpark bucketlist

BBC live updates with a segue for the ages:
20:37
HALF-TIME Napoli 1-0 Juventus
That's that. Take a break. Time to have a quick look at those Tim Sherwood rumours.

@SpursFunnies: Paul Gascoigne has arrived at Anfield with a can of larger and some chicken claiming to be a friend of Tim Sherwood.

If it's true he's punched a Spurs player it is terrible. It's not as if they can defend themselves...

My favourites are "Sherwood punched Dawson and Luis Suarez went down" and "Spurs can't sack Sherwood because he's the only one who knows where Erik Lamela is buried." People can be so cruel. I'm sure every dressing room in the country has had something like this happen.
There are plenty out there who wish Wenger would give Giroud a slap
Whatever has or hasn't happened, it is taking away from an abject, inept and thoughtless performance. He doesn't seem to have the same level of detractors in the press as AVB had. Seems inevitable that our season is done and there will be a new car in the Manager's parking space in the summer. It was a gamble. It hasn't worked. I'm fairly sanguine about these things (a few hours after shouting myself hoarse at the telly...)

Think that probably says more about the press and how they play games with managers that don't play their game more than anything else.

Choral are 14/1, that price fine.
Need to get on today, as Poshies are not on league duty, while MK Frauds play Wolves, and Swindon go up against tired no-channers Sheff Utd.
hope you didn't get a bet on them Sheffield United, would have done your nuts in

SPOTY
Not gonna make a recommend, far too risky in current climate, but thoughts please.
1, Stevie G. The juice has been sucked out in the last 24 hours but 10-1. Still rather be late to the party than miss the party. If Pool win the titile the Scousers will be out in their masses to vote for their idol. No one has any expectations of us doing at all well in the WC, so any half decent showing on top of that or a couple of goals from him, also gives you a second bite of the cherry.
2, Mo Farrah. Seemingly overlooked last couple of years despite some amazing achievements, which has surprised me. You can draw all manner of conclusions. However, this is somewhat tenuous but may have some substance. In two weeks time is the London Marathon. I go up with a few mates every other year, yesterday we tried to book the coach(Nat Exp). Every bus is full from 4am. Never happened before, so one suspects the following he has generated for this is massive. If he wins, surely he must podium this year. 25-1 ew?
Thoughts anyone?

Would you not say that Liverpool's season has been all about Suarez and people will of course see that? At the same time there is as much chance of Liverpool finishing 3rd than there is of them winning the league too. Not really sure I would ever want to take 10-1 on that

I think 10/1 Gerrard is not a bad shout. If Liverpool don't win the league, the bet is probably dead in the water, mind.
Aaron's point is a decent one, but Gerrard will be the one holding the trophy in all the front pages, all the articles will be about how he could have gone to a bigger club five years ago and choose to stay with his home town club etc.
Would he retire if they were to win the league (conquered it all, and all that)? This would obviously help the bet.
