The seventh Indian Premier League begins on Wednesday, with all eight teams playing before the weekend.

I have previewed it elsewhere and we are on Snrisers for the thread

The IPL starts in Dubai and the UAE, with the first half of matches in the Group stage being played in the Middle East.

The first round of matches are as follows:

Wed April 16 Abu Dhabi Mumbai Indians v Kolkata Knight Riders 6.30pm
Thurs April 17 Sharjah Delhi Daredevils v Royal Challengers Bangalore 6.30pm
Fri April 18 Abu Dhabi Chennai Super Kings v Kings XI Punjab 2.30pm
Fri April 18 Abu Dhabi Sunrisers Hyderabad v Rajasthan Royals 6.30pm

The Delhi/Bangalore game features two of the most powerful batting line ups in the competition, but possibly two of the weakest bowling sides

For Bangalore, Delhi have to get through Gayle, Kohli, De Villiers and Yuvraj. Those four are going to win a lot of games for this side, and might need to compile some big scores as the bowling line up lacks quality.

Delhi counter with Kevin Pietersen, Duminy and Ross Taylor but they too lack match-winning spin options. After their struggles last season, Delhi should be more competitive this but its a big ask to beat Bangalore first up

Recommendations. The Delhi batsman market the clear value looks to be JP Duminy, a good player of slow bowling, who most recently has batted number 3 in the T20 World Cup and is offered at 6/1 by Ladbrokes/William Hill to be top Delhi batsman in this game

De Kock is out of form, KP hasn't played since before Xmas etc etc. Duminy shouldn't be 6th favourite here

http://www.oddschecker.com/cricket/indian-premier-league/delhi-v-bangalore/top-delhi-batsman

The third match sees powerful Chennai play Kings XI Punjab in a day night game. Punjab look a more powerful outfit than last year with Sehwag, Perera, Maxwell and Bailey accompanying Mitchell Johnson in a team that could cause the fancied teams problems. Chennai are favourites for the competition though, and in Ashwin, Badree and Jadeja have a spin attack that are going to win them games in the Middle East

Recommendations. over one stumping in the game at 5/4 with Sportingbet.

http://www.oddschecker.com/cricket/indian-premier-league/chennai-v-punjab/total-stumpings

Zero is priced at 4/7, which is too short.

Three Chennai spinners (including badree who opens the bowling), aggressive Punjab batsmen like Sehwag and Maxwell on a slow pitch (ie having to use the crease/their feet to get power on the ball and clear the boundary). Sounds like a recipe for stumpings to me

(stat alert, just to show i am not just guessing. There were 18 stumpings in last years IPL, Dhoni the Chennai keeper made three of them).

Recommend £30 on Benoit Paire to beat Albert Montanes in the Monte Carlo masters today at 5/6

Paire beat Montanes last week at Casablanca on a similar surface.  During that match Paire shaded many of the crucial stats

Won 47% against Montanes 2nd serve (verses 40%)
Created 7 break points verses 5.
Won 35% of return points verses 31%

Small margins indeed, but enough to suggest Paire should be favourite, as opposed to the bookies being unable to split them.

have only seen this now

Montanes leads 3-2 on serve

Paire is 11/10 in running

if you are around Dung, the view now is?

Thanks Rich, as agreed, because it is yoor suggestion, this would be one for me to do, subject to general feedback etc.

How much were you Recommending on each of the 2 suggestions? That gives us a clue to the strength of your view.

OK, I did slightly more on each (£25 & £40 respectively) but I'll keep the extra for myself.

Both bets are ON, as Reconmmended, with Wm Hill, & Sporting Bet.

2 BETS PLACED

Did you not get the money back on that Marathon bet or was that factored in with the loss?  Would doubt they could allow a bet on someone who pulled out a week earlier to stand

Just got back to see Paire has thrown his toys out of the pram at missing 2 bps in the final set to get broken in the very next game.

Sigh.

the Snooker World Championships begin on Saturday

we've played in each each year of the thread

Its 6/4 Ronnie 8/1 bar

http://www.oddschecker.com/snooker/world-championship/winner

the final qualifying matches take place in the next 48 hours, and then the draw for Sheffield

I am interested in seeing the draw, and possibly picking a winner of the non ronnie half, e/w for the title

does anyone else have any fanices, ideas for value etc etc? last year walden and hawkins came from nowhere to go very deep, for example

further to this the draw

lopsided

ronnie and ding in the same half, but are top two in the market....

selby, trump, robertson in the other. looks to have a lot more depth

selby and the crucible don't mix too well

trump has the concentration span of a toddler

liking the look of robertson e/w, but open to cogitation

I don't like Jordan Speith much, not backing him again, hard to funk for someone so stroppy and angry. Woulda won me a few grand but Bubba's been all class and Speith like a spoilt little boy

Much as I love me old mucker Jaffa, I did have a laugh at this.

Has Jaffa become the new Gentleman Ben at the poker tables in the last five years?
Not sure my behaviour at a poker table has ever been bad, but if it was, I wouldn't be surprised to see that others are rooting for the other guy to win. I'd never watched Speith play before, and great shout Doobs and u for championing him, but cheering on Speith is hard work, like cheering on the Wimbledon of old while they're playing against Barcelona

Not surprising you haven't seen him, he is 20 years old, and I think they said this was only his 3rd major!
