Leicester appear to have signed Upson to go with Albrighton
Forgive me if i am very very underwhelmed with those two signings for a top half finish, let alone staying in the league!
well its early days
Upson will be a back up centre back, and experience in a generally young squad.
Albrighton replaces Dyer, and will also be a squad player. I liked Albrighton 2 or so years ago, lots of pace, good crosses. been injured much of the past year. only 24, and wanted to remain in the midlands.
both on frees, and within the wage structures of the club
its fine, more to come.
we aren't going to be signing marquee type players at this stage. not Pearson's style, all about the team ethic and fitting in

Suppose Upson is ok but would not want him starting to often in this league.
Albrighton i cant have maybe he could still improve always looks very lightweight to me and liable to get injured at any minute.

i refuse to call them "birmingham"
I had no idea who this team were other day and had to google it !!
How bleeding ridiculous.
Some teams are actually going the other way and back to original names ie Hampshire and Glamorgan
wtf?
All these years later, I still grimace a bit when I say Bradford
Bulls
. I can't refer to them as
The Bulls
. Bah humbug.
I don't mind Hull Tigers so much, as they have been called that for years and it isn't something the marketing department have dreamed up.

on the basis of 2013-14 sure, but its a bit short term thinking
82 top flight games for Villa, in a better Villa team than the one of the last 18 months before the injuries came

Until recently I thought long odds each way short odds win only.
Then I was educated by a Fred elder who told me that some horses are all or nothing horses and either win or are nowhere.
He regularly places bets at 25/1 win only and 2/1 each way.
I placed a bet at 5/2 each way 1/5 odds and the manager in Corals laughed but the place was 1.28 on Betfair.

The best e/w bet i ever had was on a 1/2 fav at wolves in 2006 in an 8 runner race when i first started arbing in 2006. Hills laid me £20k ew at 1/2 and i laid the win at 1.47 for the whole £20k and the place at 1/50 (1.02) for the whole £20k place bet having got 1/10 at hills for the place. Therefore freerolling them for close to £1600 profit on the place arb alone on an outcome that was 98% likely to win. The best thing about the bet was that the horse come 2nd and i lost heavily on the bet overall at hills. I am sure the horse traders at hills spent ages rofl at my bet after it came 2nd and they continued to lay me full limit bets for months thinking 'we have really found one here'.
The 2nd fav was a 7/2 shot which they were willing to lay £20 ew on as a max bet on the account even though they were happy to lay £20k on a fav ew which was just as bad an ew bet to lay as the 2nd fav.

it's now 14/1 in an 8 runner race 1/5 odds 1,2,3.
should we back it e/w or win only app 17-1 on Betfair (5/2 to place)?

As a general rule I almost always bet ew if the race is a 12-runner handicap, a 16-23 runner handicap, 24+ runners with 5-places and 8 or 9 runners a 5th. I also bet ew if it's a "bad" ew race (the win price of the horse causes the place part to be out of whack, often due to a short-price favourite or two short ones at the front of the market).
I hardly ever bet ew in 15-runner handicaps, 11 runner handicaps, 7-runner non-handicaps.
Rules are there to be broken of course but other factors are how solid is it? Don't like backing horses over a new trip (up in trip), on ground they have never won on, 1st time back from long lay-off, or 1st time in a handicap ew. These are "win or come nowhere". Really like backing dodgepots and down in trip, consistant types ew even when I don't massively fancy them to win.
As usual, if in doubt, check the place market on the machine. Any 16-runner handicap 14 of them will be 7/4 to 4/1 a place when they are 8/1 to 20/1 to win. Almost impossible to have a bad bet in those races, especially if you bet horses with recent form over c and d.
I think many industry pundits and journos are v lazy and suggest ew if it's 6/1 or more and win-only if it's less.
