The obvious winner to me is froch although I am biased after backing him at 100/1 already. What other uk performance this year comes close to his? Assuming we discount wwe type sports (IMO of course) which are team driven and people win to team orders ie cycling/f1

Wilkinson is an absolute no no for me, as we discussed a few weeks ago
Huge fan of rugby but the masses are not voting for a player retired from international sport years ago who plays for a French club who won a competition that few people watch on satellite TV!
lifetime achievement gong, for sure
i think we have to look at the commonwealth games. its on the BBC, its going to get Clare-Balding-ed (earnest look to camera, tilt head to side, make sure viewers know the portentous events they are watching are amazing and lower voice an octave just to make sure we are clear on this) to death with Eddie Butler reverent voiceovers as the icing on top
Mo Farah for me
this is unless rory wins the open, and europe win the ryder cup in dramatic fashion.

Trying to work out if Halep is value today against Bouchard at 4/6. Halep has been crushing opponents ever since the French Open and Bouchard (I think) is getting slightly overhyped by the media. Any thoughts?
Kvitova leads Safarova 5-0 on head to head (and I think four of those meetings in 2014), but 2/5 looks about correct given that Safarova is playing pretty well.

Someone would have to win two golds in the Commonwealth Games to have even a sniff. Farah winning 5 and 10k against Kenyans but no Ethiopians, Eritreans, Moroccans or Americans is good but not quite as spine-tingling. Him winning in an England shirt doesn't likely get the rest of the Union rushing to their 'phones, either.

Tighty,
Where did you get your World Cup graphic showing Netherlands v CR on the 6th?
Flashscores, BBC and Google all show two games tomorrow and two on the 5th, none on the 6th.

What price do we want Wilkinson? I can't believe after all this time the thread has been going, that the price still isn't mentioned anywhere.
The each way frims are 12/1 best with a fifth first 3. So we are backing a long term odds on chance if we think the best he can do is place.
It is virtually an arb on Betfair, but that would take a lot of money for a long time so that isn't really an option anyway, just saying it is there.
To me this looks like someone has had a good idea at a big price a month or so ago, and it has filtered down to here too late.

SPOTY: Laura Trott won the British National Road Race last week. She'll be riding the track & road at the Commonwealth Games, with a decent shot at multiple Gold. Price shortened from 100/1 last weekend to 20/1 now. Although some 150 on betty available win only.

The Market is just like one of those bad sellers @ Yarmouth or Brighton, you go through the card & strike out those who cannot win, & nobody is left.
There must be a winner though, & with MardyBum a false favourite imo, there must be some value somehere.
Maybe Mardy is the best of a bad bunch. "Personality" must have a special meaning in SPOTY.

Never really got Wilkinson and think he is massively over rated. Seems a typical me me me modern day sportsman. Was very lucky to be on the best England team in history with the best coach in history and win the world cup. Never really won anything at club rugby level with Newcastle (seemed to stay there and have no desire to actually win in club rugby by moving to Leicester/Northampton/Wasps because they were willing to pay him large to stay on a team which never competed during his prime) then moves onto France for a pension to retire. Got injured way too much because his ego never seemed to be able to tell him he wasn't 18 stone and shouldn't be making the tackles he routinely did. Got no problems with the guy overall just have never understood the big deal about him. He certainly didn't win England the WC unlike what a lot of people think. Grayson before him was a much superior kicker.

If we're fairly sure that, if Hamilton winning the F1 garbage means he's pretty much got SPOTY in the bag, there's an easy enough trade. Back him at 4.5 for SPOTY and lay him at 2.24 for the F1. I wouldn't know for sure that it's that clear-cut though.
Back Westwood at 80 and lay him back at single figures for the Open just beofre he coughs it up?
Don't like the market tbf.

You not think this mardybum bit just shows your bias?
The personality thing doesn't mean much in this. There have been several other notable dullards have won it over the years. Froome wins teh Tour De France or Hamilton wins the World Drivers Championship, surely wiining the Rugby World Cup in a team game several years ago doesn't cut it?
Nigel Mansell won this when second in the World Championship and I certainly wouldn't even put him ahead of Hamilton. That goes for both personality and talent.
