So I think it's time for Fred to be gently retired.
The one thing which remains on here is that a few knowledgeable guys are still soldiering on sharing their tips.
Why don't we increase the number of individual sports betting threads? Horse racing, dogs, golf and boxing are covered. Why don't we just add all the other sports and that way we can avoid posters who irritate and annoy us and carry on having banter with people we respect or admire?
What do you think of that idea?
At first I was like, nooooooo.
But then I carried on reading and thought actually, that sounds alright.

I was very eager to take an active part in TFT as I saw it as a way of repaying Mr T for the money he spends on the server each month, I just had to make sure to give him winning tips. Having a tennis thread which would consist of me writing to myself just doesn't interest me at all. There has to be a way of keeping this thread going, but maybe with some tinkering to reduce workloads. Weekly updates spring to mind instead of daily.

Hi.
speaking personally, its not the workload (i love the game, and enjoy the writing) its the bickerings/fallings out etc that drain so much because so many of them seem so intractable.
when x says to me "i won't post because of y"
and y tells me "i won't post because of z"
and multiply that by ten then the whole thing eventually implodes down its own plughole
rectify that, and fine, but not sure its feasible
i enjoyed keith's post actually, reminded me of some fun times :-)

Just goes to show how much everyone respects Dave's advice.
I know some of the cleverest punters in the country, but believe me, Dubai is right up with them.
(Think David might well have more leaks than all the rest put together though)

The story just made sense apart from the fact Mardle didn't have a tour card!

Don't know if Fred fancies having an interest in the
Omloop het Nieuwsblad
tomorrow, but I recommend the following bets purely on the basis that the favourites are too short:
£2 e/w Jean Pierre Drucker @ 100/1 (Buttermeup)
£2 e/w Mathieu Ladagnous @ 150/1 (Buttermeup)
£2 e/w Mathias Brandle @ 200/1 (Redshoutyman)
Love this race, had a gander this evening.
Etixx have 5 riders capable of the win, after missing out last year, I can't see em making the same mistakes. I invested a little on Stybar at 10/1. BMC won't allow Ettix to much, & Gilbert @ 25/1 on roads he knows well, a double winner here in years gone by, looks value imo. Banzai is Jens Debusschere @ 180/1, Lotto's protected rider & in the Belgian National champs jersey.

Nice to see The Camel back on here, and if it were the end, that would be some nice symmetry to it all.
However I hope it isn't the end. I certainly don't think farming us all off into our own directions is the solution either. As one of those that often posts into a void in the Racing thread, I know how disheartening it is to put all the effort in and feel like you might as well talk to yourself.
I also know I miss plenty of stuff when the threads are split up. I often miss out on Longtail stuff, for instance, but I forget to check every day. This would be the case ten fold if we had a thread for each sport.
It would be nice to have harmony again on Fred, with a fair spread of posters, and not purely the views of two or three people all day, but I don't know how you change that back.
At the end of the day, despite all the egos and testosterone that flies around here, my life would be emptier without this thread, and I hope it continues.

Agree with Adz.
As much as I respect Camel, and even knowing he started the thread, I don't think that should be the end of it on his say so. In fact, the reverse of his suggestion is probably what is needed: more people from individual threads posting here.

The decision isn't mine Scott. Just giving my opinion.
I think the thread has been dying for the best part of a year, but this week has just speeded up its demise.
It's Tikay's and Flushy's site and this has been one of the most popular threads but I just think it's more trouble than it's worth now.
Up to them to decide if they feel like soldiering on or not.

Can it just be left open and people can still post their fancies in it? All the accounts can be locked up, the daily round up and monthly round up can all be dispensed with. So like with any other thread, nobody is in charge as such.
In any event, well done Keith for the idea and everyone else involved in running it, particularly Tighty and Mere. It was magnificent while it lasted. Quite simply, one of the best threads I've ever read on the internet.

this is all good stuff
keep the feedback coming through the weekend please (and absolutely nothing to stop anyone putting bet thoughts up for others!)
i know tikay wants to add some thoughts next week after the event we are at finishes
then we can work out a way forward , ultimately its his decision of course
