Disappointing start to the Wild bet as they went down 3-2 at home to the Washington Capitals over night. The league's leading marksman Alex Ovechkin potting a pair. He's quite the character and a real highlight reel player. Youtube him and you'll be astonished at some of the goals he's scored over the years.

Big game against the Blues next up on Saturday.

Ha, not the start we hoped for, but I'm looking forward to sweating this one, so keep the reports coming please, & we've got Tighty studying the game now too, always a bonus.

We used to have a blonde who claimed to have been a NHL player back in the day, he went on to win a WSOP Bracelet eventually, though most might say he ran a tad good, his name was Brian Wilson. He was certainly built like a NHL player, very well built, & not one to back down, ever.

Closer to home for you & me, after losing last Saturday, Brentford won away to Blackburn on Tuesday, & tomorrow have - on paper - a soft home game v Millwall. Those with no connecton to Brentford will wonder what all the fuss is about, but to people like you & I, we've never seen anything like it. The added fun is QPR going down, so if we could just get the job done, that'd be a cracking bonus. Always been important to be better than that Loftus Road shambles.

hello tony,

i had planned on just observing the forum for a while but ending up wading in the deep end during a dull moment in the cricket, apologies!

joined the forum due to a piss-poor cheltenham, needed to revamp my betting from top to bottom so asked a punter friend of mine the name of a good forum and he sent me this way. i am very much small time compared to some of the rest of you guys i would imagine, but hopefully i'll have something useful to contribute at some stages.

football team - i support my hometown team newcastle united, keep a keen eye on my dads team leyton orient

favourite sport is cricket, to begin with because it my the sport i was best at growing up, now due to subtle complexities that the 3 formats all bring to the same sport. the whole individual whilst being a team sport interests me from a psychological point of view also (did my degree in sports pyschology)

arsene wenger, the classic marmite question these days! during the parts of the year where the transfer window i shut i love wenger and the ethos he has instilled into arsenal and the revolution he introduced to arsenal, to begin with thrugh gritted teeth as the toon were challenging at the stage. during the transfer window i am constantly confused by his stubbornness to buy the obvious players he needs, keeper, commanding centre half, beast of a dmc etc so 8 months of the year he is a 10/10, 4 months he is 0/10 so he averages out at 6.66 / 10

i normally bet on cricket and cycling, horse racing festivals, being a nit in nlh and lay the toon after xmas every game (that last one is printing money)

i used to work as a poker dealer, now i work in a bookies (try not to hold it against me)

i'd have to be a trains man on that one

i am younger than you are

let me know if the "concrete, trains or hydraulic backhoe excavators?" chat up line works, i'll have to use it if so :-)

Cracking reply, thank you.

Just working through the stuff in italics....

We had a poor Cheltenham, too, only saved, really, by Adzy's Vautaur (sp?) who we had to win any race at the Festival @9/2. With hindsight, greatest bet ever ever ever, though hindsight is pretty handy. Would not mind the same bet for next year. It's all relative though, all things considered, we had a lot of fun & lost a small amount, so that's OK. I'd have settled for losing that before it started.

You are a cricket sort? Excellent news. We have 3 or 4 here, but another will be handy. Tighty attends County Matches & does the Press Association reports, & is a bit of a cricket buff. "Rinswun" is a very knowledgeable cricket type, too, as well as several others.

Sports psychology? BOOM. Love that stuff. We see it happen more in golf than any other sport I think, golfers mentally imploding when under extreme pressure, & I always feel sorry for them, it's not like they do it deliberately, & they don't ask us to back them. When Rory had his implosion (2012, or 13 was it?) he got called "a ****ing clown" here by someone who, in all probability, plays off 20 or whatever. Strewth, that sorta stuff does my head in.

You lay Newcastle in every post-Xmas game? Genius!

We do have a Newcastle United thread, but I can't really recommend it, the Newcastle supporters here have a bit of a problem with sense of entitlement, & it's not exactly the happiest thread we have here. It's here if you fancy a look....

http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=37799.2250

It's almost dropped off the front page, they are a "sing when we are winning" bunch presumably. Never did I see a set of football supporters who enjoy their football less. All very sad.

You only bet small? That's never a prob. Fred's fave tipster is probably hector, & he bets £5, £10 & £15 most of the time, now & then he stretches to £20 or £25. It does not matter, others can put as much or as little as they want. "Pete27" used to recommend £1 & £2 bets, again, it does not matter, they are both fine tipsters, & we all bet as we see fit. No elitism here in that respect.

Don't forget you get your first "recommend" auto-placed, traditional newcomers right on Fred, so when you see a bet you fancy, stick it up.

I see stoke are > evens (again) to win at home against a team that are worse than them. This time against Palace. I am struggling to see what the bookies know differently that makes them that price.

always fearful of putting anything prem related up but surely this is a bet and possibly a big one too.

any comments??

Don't ask questions.  Gift horses and mouths spring to mind.  Are they bigger than 6/5 now then?  They were 6/5 earlier.

6/5 with Puppy power. Fred can get on at 23/20 with Billys. I have read that 6/5 is the standard price for a home team when the teams are evenly matched, so I reckon 23/20 is still value by a long way here. I'm still a bit reluctant to put this up as a recommend; I do not have the stats to hand that the bookies have, but Stoke have been formidable at home. Maybe they are having a ManU type season where their stats do not reflect their results so they are continually being overpriced.

Anyway I've only had £20 in the end and recommend the same for Fred

Palace are reborn under pardew. They have goals in them and the stoke defence hasnt been good this season, shawcross may be back though but wollschied is out. 6/5 about right IMO.

^^

I also believe that Palace have won their last four or five away games too.

I like the Leeds bet though. 21/20 with BMU has to be taken.

Whilst i agree Palace are smoking right now that recency bias is what is probably creating this price on Stoke as Stoke quietly go about their business as usual.  I don't buy the Stoke defence argument at all.  Stoke have the 7th lowest goals conceded total in the EPL this season even though they have had huge long term disruption of their settled back four for the vast majority of the season in comparison to previous seasons where the keeper and back 4 were virtually unchanged for the entire season (esp the two centre halves - Huth and Shawcross)

Get ready for the groans......

Looking at the Grand National market, I think we should have an early speculative bet on the best horse in the world(cough) Roll Eyes

A week before the Gold Cup my concerns were raised by Sherwood(the trainer) announcing that Trevor Hemmings(the owner) was keen to run in the Grand National. Sherwood obviously stated it was Gold Cup, full steam ahead.

Hemmings has a rich history with the National and so far had a couple of winners, in Ballabriggs and Hedgehunter(who also ran in the Gold Cup as a GN warm up, if I recall correctly), so you could understand why his attentions were split.

Many Clouds is 33-1 NRNB 1,2,3,4,5 with Betty Sportsbook, and if he does go, he just won't be that price. Even if he isn't strongly fancied he wont go off worse than 16-1.

He stays, he jumps, and the trend is towards the better horses winning the National, and even putting my blind love of the horse aside, this looks a good value bet, and come the day, if he runs you have trading options. If he doesn't, money back!!

He is currently 75-1 on the exchanges, so I suspect they are still waiting to see how he comes out of the Gold Cup exertions.

I understand we may miss out on a place when we get 1-6 on the day, but I think beating the price will comfortably offset that.

A simple £10 ew should get the ball rolling.

FWIW I really like the look of Merry Kings profile, but with all the Jonjo money/support likely to be for Shutthefrontdoor and AP, we can leave him till later!
