Does clarkson still retain his part ownership of the top gear brand even though he has been fired?  I assume he does.  Quite a weird spot to be fired from a business you have a big % stake in and your image on it is massively important to its success going forward.

Couldn't have Steve Coogan at all tbh. Not a presenter is he?

Similarly Guy Martin isn't but he'd be the sort of outsider I'd be considering. Also, what price Richard Orford?

That's the key Clarkson is the 'Anchor' effectively of the show with May and Hamster as the side kicks so his replacement presumably will have to fit the same role?

I should have said 'coogan would be a brilliant choice'. Far too good for top gear,I think he could present a show in his sleep.

listening to James May just now on the radio, sounds like the three of them have something lined up. which would make sense. imagine the advertising revenue from "motoring gear" on a sunday at 8pm on channel 4, 5 etc...enormous

it could be a future top gear has 1,2 or 3 new presenters

i suggest a watching brief on the next presenter market, plenty of variables at play, not least as you've said ownership of the brand and what that means for decision making

coogan's a hollywood actor with all sorts of things on the go, no need to mess around in a hangar near guildford on winter wednesday's, anyway

Anyone lay the 1/20 shot pre race at Lingers that has just got beat?  Has a shorter priced horse pre race ever got beat on the flat?  Can't remember too many.

Steve Coogan the obvious pick,he would fill the shoes of clarkson with ease.

Steve Coogan ticks all the boxes doesn't he? Already on the books of the BBC, well liked by the public, affordable, available, knows cars, likes the show etc. etc.

http://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2011/feb/05/top-gear-offensive-steve-coogan?CMP=share_btn_tw

As the article above shows, could come in and shake things up a bit. Would probably not work with the other presenters though...

''Richard has his tongue so far down the back of Jeremy's trousers he could forge a career as the back end of a pantomime horse. His attempt to foster some Clarkson-like maverick status with his "edgy" humour is truly tragic. He reminds you of the squirt at school as he hangs round Clarkson the bully, as if to say, "I'm with him". Meanwhile, James May stands at the back holding their coats as they beat up the boy with the stutter.''

Chris Evans is the short priced favourite but categorically ruled himself out on his radio 2 breakfast show this morning.

8/1 Ladbrokes of interest? Would like to be 100% sure Mr Clarkson has got the sack first mind you although it seems all signs are pointing that way.

Had to do a double take there.  Thought Ched Evans was the short priced favourite there for a moment!

Apparently a William Hill punter had £190,000 on the 1/20 loser (Triple Dip) [via @TWEnclosure]

(i know, i know, i just read it and copy it into here)

I know an arber who had a big 5 figure sum on it and nicked a monkey risk free either way on betfair whether it won or lost pre race.  Just hoping he doesn't have to pay the premium charge on it!  Should help keep that account open for a good while longer!

Someone called not tikay encouraging us to take 3/1 at a certain place. Hmmm Smiley

LOL. certainly not encouraging anything of the sort....was just inquiring if it was value or not. OBV not going by Nico29's post above. I just think that price (wherever it may be) will be cut shorter when the team is announced.

I've seen your username hundreds of times and never read it as not tikay before.

I thought it might be a homage to APE Knott.

It may well be, but I fancy it is more likely a reference to me, though I doubt it's homage. (for homage to me, go to "Find a Player" & look up "TIKAYSUCKS").

I really should introduce Mr Knottikay, aka "Alan". Strange how the internet means we don't introduce each other, I always think. Half the barneys we have would be avoided if we all knew each other a bit better.

He's a long-term player Next Door, (MAXALLY) & a champion of the small ball regular guys. He is one himself, or used to be, but he's moved up the poker ladder recently, having his then biggest ever win by buying a piece of Neil Strike (Joesman1) in a big jobbie which Neil won. Then a week or two ago, Alan won the Super Roller for about £5,500, & this weekend just gone he got 10th in the same event for a few hundred.

He's a Stoke City fan, has a son a few years older than your Jake, & he dotes on his lad. Works for an aluminium & steel stockholder in Alfreton or similar. Dad, not the boy.

We used to have an awkward chemistry (caused by work issues, not personal, as I represent the enemy - the business) but we are all cooey-wooey these days, in fact we might just settle down like two little spoons & have kids & stuff.

He's very welcome here indeed, & he'll maybe recruit a few other sharps too.

Alan - Keith, Keith - Alan.

Just seen this Tikay. Nice piece but maybe a bit out of place in a betting thread  (?) I was waiting for a mention on one of your blogs FFS....sigh  Roll Eyes

I will just say that I have enormous respect for Tikay (even though we have had the odd falling out in the past over trivial poker stuff) and he has helped me greatly in my poker journey. I am still a small ball rec player FTR.

Anyway.....Hi Keith......and all.

I'm pretty sure that is the case, yes, Clarkson still owns a goodly share of the franchise.

If so, a really odd spot.

Technically, he's been fired from the BBC, rather than fired as a Top Gear Presenter, I'd say.

I assume it is not possible for clarkson to move top gear to another channel as his holding isn't a majority holding which I assume the bbc has?

I'm pretty sure I read that he sold his % ownership to the BBC in a multi million £ deal (last year or a couple of years ago?)

Wink

You interact here a lot, so it seemed the right place to me, far more people read this than my Diary. Can't quite imagine why.

It's really weird though this "introduction" thing. In real life, when a stranger joins an existing group, everyone understands the social conventions which helps us interact better, both ways, it's O Level psychology. On the internet we rarely do it.
