Quick warm up for Cheltenham

2.00 at Sandown is an interesting race.  That hill at Sandown is brutal at the best of times, if the ground is soft, more so.  This is a race for young horses and a few have never done 20 furlongs before, never mind on the soft up a big hill.  Both the favourite (Two Taffs) and one of the second favourites (Flashjack) fall in to this category.  In addition this is a quarter the odds first 4 race, so we must have an edge of we can get near betfair.

The horse I have picked out is Point The Way.  It is only 5, seems to be improving, has won its last 3 (albeit on poorer tracks), and all 3 were on soft or heavy over 20 furlongs or so.  Think we must be staying on at the end and at 14/1 4 places, it seems a very solid bet.

Suggest £50 e/w Point The Way at 14/1 in the 2.00 at Sandown (SB, victor. lads, PP and 365)

Shouldn't we be backing Stoke at 19/10 (37/20 SportingB) to beat Southampton.  Both teams are pretty much the same standard.  Stoke have better recent form and are at home, but the prices are the same on both teams.  I can't see any injury news that would put me off Stoke.  They seem forever underated by the bookies.  We say this often, but never seem to bet here.

Suggest we put £25 on the Stoke win at 37/20 if we casn get it, if not, I am sure 19/10 is fine (19/10 is the lay price on betfair).

Agreed. Looked to my naive eye that the jockey must take much of the blame, he stopped riding completely, more tired than the horse.

Ha, you wouldn't be far wrong Grin

Looked like the horse saw something and got scared, rather than being jocks fault?

Maybe so, yes, it just looked to me that the jockey was not riding him out to the line, he just stopped urging the horse on.

That was my take, unless geraghty slapped it down the shoulder on the blind side (which still wouldnt make it his fault). Still wasnt enough to get the one I back on the screen.
