Australian GP officially cancelled.
How do yoi think that affects the season or your bets? If races get culled and its shorter does that mean bottas has a better chance?
How do you think the time off will impact the teams? Ferrari catch up without a race & end up 2nd as a result? Same with the mid table, renault etc
In the event the calendar is shorter, which seems likely, then that would certainly benefit my Bottas & Renault bets - and it is something I considered when the bet was placed.
F1 are currently investigating an enforced three-week shutdown over the coming months to replace the summer break later in the season, which would limit the Ferrari deficit caused by their shutdown. That being said, they are now undoubtedly at a disadvantage. There's also an investigation to allow a race weekend to be dropped down to two days instead of three which would allow triple-headers to happen, increasing the possibility of a longer calendar.
Be interesting to find out how much they can do from home , I believe the centralised computing power is capped by the FIA to try and keep the playing field level so quite a bit of the CFD and the like is done on local workstations , not the sort of horsepower they’re likely to have at home. Plus it curtails all the 3D prototyping and the like.
If the other teams don’t follow it could be quite an advantage.
That's an interesting question. They are at a disadvantage, but to what extend depends on their company policy. It is possible for them to do all computer-based work at home, if Ferrari allow the remote use of company computers from private residences. They could use private PC's for design work (CAD, CFD etc.) but actually running CFD simulations requires huge computational power which won't be available at home; they would need a remote link-up to use the Maranello processors.
Multiple key workstreams will be impossible to be run from home though such as component testing, lab analysis, wind tunnel investigation, dyno/rig running etc.
