They are one and the same. Dosza was a talented Hungarian chess player who - as you can tell from the accent - emigrated to Australia.

He had an unfortunate habit of visiting fine restaurants and forgetting to pay the bill, which I suspect explains the video.

At 16, he drew with Lajos Portisch, who was a very strong player and then Hungarian Champion:

Here is Portisch's wiki:

Born 1937 and still playing to an impressive standard for his age.

At least that's an accessible price.

Not hugely functional though!

Could Carlsen lose his No 1 ranking? He had some strong tournaments in the first half of the year, but has had some terrible form since.

He went into the Norway Chess tournament in June with a rating of 2876 and came out of it on 2853, having finished close to bottom with 3.5/9 (having been 0.5/4), even losing the final match to last-placed Hammer for the first time since he was ten.

He is now down to 2834 (or will be when the December rankings are published) after another horror show at the European Team Championship, winning two, losing two and drawing three against players ranked much lower than those he has beaten routinely. His draws were against players ranked 65th, 138th and 405th and he lost with white to the player ranked 403rd. Again, he had a terrible start, going to 0.5/3.

Having dropped 42 points, he still has 31 in hand over Topalov and another ten or so over the pack. It is hard to see any of them gaining that many in the short term, but another bad tournament could bring him down within range.

He could. There's a big tournament in London coming up (starts next week) featuring a very strong field. If he bombs, he could have a similar drop and be right amongst it. He's not been putting results together of late at all. It's a good game then a slip.

We all do it as spectators, but we convince ourselves these people are machines. It's a bit of a slump but he's built the cushion that allows him to have one and still be top dog.

Ratings are announced at the start of each month.

Nice article. Thanks for that.

Interesting that he feels like he's suffering from a lack of competition. It's entirely possible he's right. Someone else will come along, though. They always do.

Magnus is currently rated 2834. To put that into perspective only 3 other players have achieved that high a rating, one of whom was Gary Kasparov.

The Telegraph have a good preview of the London Chess Classic http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/chess/london-chess-classic/11985675/Who-are-the-worlds-best-chess-players.html

It's a strong international line up this year with Britain's one representative being world no.18 Michael Adams.

There are also pool games on I-pools (formerly stakes and ladders) for those who can't resist a financial interest.

With Carlsen seemingly out of form and Topalov here to continue his run for the Grand Tour title, it's an intriguing tournament.
