Crowd booing at Britain being demoted from silver to bronze.

Pathetic.

Bleh.  Bit harsh, ott reaction.

A lot of emotion and excitement running through a home crowd.  Initial jubilation of cheering a silver medal and then that being taken away from a man behind a desk (Justified).  Not great to hear, but completely understandable.

Do you expect them to stay silent, cheer?

A collective sigh maybe.

People that send abuse on Twitter to athletes that don't win a medal must be the lowest form of pondlife.

Someone tweeted to Tom Daley that he let his dead father down.

I mean really, WTF?

I wish no ill on nearly anybody.

However Hartson was a dirty thug who didn't show much sympathy for some of innocents he assaulted.

I don't like to be controversial but can you compare and contrast camel? That Hartson comment has always stuck with me.Gulp...post

Having said that, this is a massive overreaction:

 @dorsetpolice

Regarding tweets to @TomDaley1994 - We are aware of the issue and we are actively looking into it.

Surely they should be out catching robbers or something.

Someone would have to do far far worse than what Hartson has done in his career for me to go on a thread about them battling Brain Cancer and call him a dirty thug, I'll leave it at that though.I can see that you haven't mellowed out yet and are sticking by your what I believe were disgusting comments.

Pretty funny that the foreign guest panelists don't get the British humour at all. Linekar took the piss out of Phelps' ears and you could overhear Thorpe saying something along the lines of "Wow, there's no need for that" haha. Few other examples of it today also, pretty com.

Really, thinking about it, this is a terrible trolling post.

Very annoyed with myself I rose to the bait.

Deleted all my responses to it.

Ye's performance is amazing and questionable, but the tactics of both need to be factored in. Lochte timed 4:05.14 and Ye 4:28.43, so he beat her by almost a length after 8 lengths. As they did almost the same time for the free, he was almost a length ahead of her after 6 lengths of the pool. He essentially burned it early and was gassed for the free, whereas her free came off a relatively "slow" breaststroke.

People that send abuse on Twitter to athletes that don't win a medal must be the lowest form of pondlife.

Someone tweeted to Tom Daley that he let his dead father down.

I mean really, WTF?

Police intervened after a Twitter 'troll' accused Team GB diver Daley of letting down his late father by finishing outside the medals on Monday.

Daley and his partner, Pete Waterfield, finished fourth in the men's synchronised 10m platform diving final.

Shortly afterwards, Daley retweeted a message from user Rileyy69 which said: "You let your dad down i hope you know that."

Daley responded by tweeting: "After giving it my all... you get idiots sending me this..."

Daley's father Rob died last year from brain cancer.

After the insensitive tweet had provoked a furious reaction on the social networking site, Rileyy69 attempted to apologise.

He then tweeted: "@TomDaley1994 I'm sorry mate i just wanted you to win cause its the olympics I'm just annoyed we didn't win I'm sorry tom accept my apology."

He later added: "please i don't want to be hated I'm just sorry you didn't win i was rooting for you pal to do britain all proud just so upset."

Dorset Police subsequently confirmed they were investigating the incident and an arrest was made on Tuesday morning.

A police spokeswoman said: "A 17-year-old man was arrested by Dorset Police officers in the early hours this morning at a guesthouse in the Weymouth area on suspicion of malicious communications.

"He is currently helping police with their inquiries."

Deputy Mayor of the Olympic Village Duncan Goodhew, a gold and bronze medallist in swimming at the Moscow Olympics in 1980, described the behaviour of the Twitter troll as "appalling".

"It is appalling that people behave that way. Becky Adlington, in fact, suffered probably far worse abuse, as well, if you remember the kerfuffle some years ago," he told ITV's Daybreak.

"I suppose that social media in one sense is fantastic, but turned the wrong way round it is very, very personal and it destroys people's lives.

"So I think people should be much more careful about what they say."

Whilst its terrible he tweeted that, it's even more ridiculous he was arrested and is a complete waste of time.

That wasn't all he tweeted though, there were loads of tweets threatening to kill Daley too, so I guess that's more what he's been arrested for.

yes, that is an offence. He wouldn't have been arrested for the Dad tweet, as horrible as it was

Twitter is an interesting one. They temporarily banned an account that criticised NBC's Olympics coverage yesterday

Furthermore the sort of trolling the likes of Adlington and Daley get is quite common on tweitter. Tricky to get an account shut down if someone does it to Joe Bloggs though

If I stand on a street corner at lunchtime and start shouting unpleasant things about people, the police might well arrest me for a public order offence.

Twitter is the new street corner. Yes, people have to type in the web address but it is open to the police to arrest people for sending extremely unpleasant messages. They just won't do it unless it's in the public interest to do so.

National treasure, high profile celeb, being seen to stamp that sort of thing out etc.

It'll be a spot of community service and a fine, but it will more relevantly impact 17 year old chappie's job and education prospects, whatever they were
