ty

so Barry Hearn has been great news for the sport?

secondly, with the BDO coming up, why do players choose to play there rather than attempt the PDC? the BDO is amateur, county system based etc?

it was a serious question

in snooker, where he has shook up the circuit, he's met a lot of resistance.

not the case in darts?

Gotta be dream come true stuff for Norris on his debut

He's had to beat the ghost of Robert Thornton, a qualifier and the #22 seed and he's locked up £35k with a decent shot at another £35k if Klaasen doesn't show up

Darts was on its knees when sky sports took over the product after the split.  Even the top players were struggling to survive financially just on the circuit (which was why Bobby George was always more interested in playing the exhibition circuit back then and made fortunes from doing so - a lot more than far more successful players did in that era who played the circuit).

Hearn is just a master salesman.  He expanded the worlds to 64 runners (it used to start after xmas) for a week before xmas to basically sell 25000 tickets (and 10 pints of lager at a fiver a pop) to hundreds of work's xmas parties.  He just gets what the public wants and gives it to them.  He also gets what the sponsors (generally betting firms now the smoking ban has arrived) want and provides them with a perfect made for tv/punting for wagons product which they love.  Putting the premier league on a thurs night when there is very little else to bet on was a master stroke.

Snooker players seem much more lazy than darts players generally and were used to only playing 6 events a year and didn't fancy the long distance travel around the world to promote the sport (esp China).  The one's who have treated it like a business/job and put the hours in have thrived (bingham springs to mind after being a proper top 32 journeyman for a decade or more becomes world champion and finds form he never could in the old days) mainly due to a 2 year rankings system which massively benefited those already in the top 16.  You really had to fuck up to fall out of the top 16 in snooker 15 years ago.  You were gifted about £50k a year in prize money in the mid 1990's just by turning up to the first round of events you auto qualified for.  That has all gone now.  2 year money list like darts and the uk open (one of the big 3 events of the year) is totally open format where all the big boys have to enter at the round of 128 not 32 as previous.  Hearn doesn't like pampered sportsmen who think the world owes them a living (Ronnie aside!) and has the attitude if you don't want to treat it like a job then get a job.  Mark Allen took him on and lost in this type of battle when he piped up over the changes.

Very much so. Before the split the game was slowly dying, it had been thriving in the 80s but TV coverage and sponsorship money was declining in the 90s. Now they have a stack of TV tournaments, and in 2019 the winner of the Worlds will pocket £500k.

I have 4 tickets for New years Day at the Darts

Stand tickets in block 1 all together just to the right of the stage

Looking for £200 for all 4. (Cost was £170)

Once the final is over tonight you would think the attention will turn to the Premier League 2016.  Gary is 9/2 with Vic 1/2odds 1,2.  I would be surprised if this price is still available tomorrow.

Ando is 7/2 to win, have the highest checkout and the most 180s with Sky. What do you reckon?
