Feel like DG hasn't quite adapted to life in the winners circle yet, hasn't quite gained respect of the big lads. Phil started mugging him off and he just fell to pieces. Think a similar thing happened to PW after the UK open.

Wes Newton by 2020 hopefully!  His stay at the elite level will be short and sweet hopefully.

I think Gurney has a lot more going for him than Wes Newton, his action is super reliable and the big difference this last 12 and in particular the last 5 or 6 months is his finishing, I think his scoring will always stay strong and if he keeps his finishing at 38%+ and learns to close games out he'll stay world class for sure.

Think the big difference between him and Rob Cross is Rob Cross has this zip in his game, this edge that Gurney's missing, if he gets a bit more ruthless he'll be a major player for a long time.

Phil is probably right btw, if the big guy was managing him he'd be  different animal.

Love the darts, not got Sky Sports?

Now TV got a black Friday offer for 2 months of Sky Sports for 1 (£33.99).
Get it today and will cover you for the world championships.

some good news for the first time 12 months for James Wade!

Barney, Smith, Whitlock, Klaasen, Benito all out in Rd1 or 2, and Wade into the quarters, a huge step in his bid to consolidate the top 16 and perhaps even make a run back into the top 10. The bad news is all Gary's, should Cross final (which is looking pretty likely) and should he lose to MVG (which is looking pretty likely) Cross will be #19 and play Gary in rnd 3 at the worlds! if he wins, he'd go to world #14!!!!!!

Chizzy, Whitlock, Barney, Klaasen, Smith, Huybrechts, Norris, Price will all be banging their heads into the walls.

Would you agree that the darts seeding system/draw is far inferior to the tennis version.

In tennis, the only set spots in the draw are one at the top and two at the bottom.

Then it's random whether 3 goes into the top half or the bottom half. Same with 4.

So you could have 1 v 3 and 2 v 4 in the semis or 1v4 and 2 v 3.

The same thing happens with 5,6,7 and 8. One goes in each quarter. And so on down to 32.

Seems a lot fairer, expecially when the world 1 is so far the best. World number 32 always plays MVG in the second round but world 31 will never face him until the final.

Far better to be unseeded than world number 32 IMO.

Given the rankings are relatively fluid I’m not sure what the issue is?

Using your scenario MVG could face Anderson in the semi with Wright facing Gurney which is unfair.  Surely as number 1 you have earnt the right to face the weakest opponent in terms of ranking. I’ve never quite understood why tennis is like it is.

The tennis system means that players can't rig the draws - didn't we have a scenario where Whitlock was always 16th in the rankings because other players wanted to avoid a guaranteed 2nd round match with MVG in majors and so threw games in order to avoid being 16 and were happy to take their chances in the draw at 17 or 18.

Yeah that’s a fair point but i’d say instances of players tanking are rare.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_PDC_World_Darts_Championship

https://www.oddschecker.com/darts/pdc-world-championship/winner

Lewis has to be a bet at 50/1 ew 1/2 1,2 surely however out of form he is based on the draw?  He is pretty blue everywhere on oddschecker but if he doesn't get his head down in the next month to practice he might as well retire now.  Wright has new darts issues (still gifted a last 8 place on the draw however), Ando has numerous injury concerns.  MVG, Cross, Chin, Barney, Chis, Smith, Sulv are all in the top half.  It was always going to be lop sided draw wise but it is even more lop sided than i thought it would be.

I think MVG is still a bet at 4/5 however and would also be backing Whitlock and Darren Webster are huge prices ew.  Taylor for the miracle/mythical send off (according to camel) couldn't have a much better draw.  Wouldn't fancy laying 12/1 ew taylor.  MVG should surely be a shorter price than Taylor ever was for this event?  His level of motivation and dominance month after month is incredible.  4/5 looks huge to me.  His quarter is as soft as it could possibly be realistically to sail to the semis.  Looks like a price war between skybet and the sponsors to see how can go biggest price MVG.  I wouldnt be laying him much bigger than 2/5 tbh given his draw/form.

Rob Cross has as bad a draw as he could possibly have given he has dodged the 'top 3' in the world and landed in the 'soft' quarter purely by chance.  He looks a huge lay to me at the current prices, esp ew if i was a layer i would be laying the shit out of him.

Lewis has the dream draw. He looked in half decent nick at the weekend so 50s can’t be bad given his course and distance form.
