That was tighter than I had hoped, I'd not really looked into the stage much other than knowing it was a 36km time trial, hadn't realised the first 1/3 of the route was quite that hard!

Anyway, thankfully Tony Martin pulled through and made me some free money.

Interesting thing about the stage for me was that Cancellara actually came home (after the top of the climb) marginally quicker than Tony Martin if you look at the splits.  If he comes of the back of the Veulta with good form and gets his final preparation right, he might just cause a mini upset at the Worlds.  Maybe worth a bet if anywhere is offering a decent price.

I would say that is a very good price for a cover bet. The TT today really didn't suit Martin ... and yet he still won. I'd back Martin to win the World Champs any day of the week. Pity I don't currently have the bankroll to make it worth my while, factoring in the risk of punctures, crashes, flu, etc. By the way, well done on the win today. Much better 4/7 odds than say backing Man Utd to win every week. Some bets are just better value.  thumbs up

This is probably a controversial viewpoint but in my mind Contador is juiced.
He had been pretty ordinary post ban ala riding clean, but at the Tour de France I thought he showed too much improvement before injury.

Now at the Vuelta he was meant to be riding to regain fitness following a broken leg, but just looks ridic better than everyone else. Recovering from a broken lg is hard especially when going uphill and over bumps. No way IMO he can naturally recover that quick!!

Loved that today, Contador bossing it!

Bit out of order to accuse him of juicing I reckon. Would never get away with it in this day and age surely

Some thoughts this week.

Parcours looks to suit powerful riders with sprint capabilities. Of course teams like Italy & Spain will be trying to blunt them by setting a blistering pace.

Specialized-Lululemon take their third consecutive TTT world title. Their closest rivals, Rabo-Liv, had a nasty crash.

Interesting case put for the chances of Nacer Bouhanni.

French political infighting within the team makes me wary.

Bookies now generally priced Orica a shade ahead of OPQS in the market.

Will be interesting, OPQS in training did look smooth & well drilled, Boonen looks in great shape. Will be exceptionally fast, expecting average 52/53 km/hr. Hope the weather holds for all teams to give a fair result.

Ireland have huge hopes for Ryan Mullen in todays U23 ITT. Looks a three way battle between Mullen, Kung & Flakemore. Kung could edge it with the advantage of going off last.

Women's RR on Saturday. Voss an obvious winner. But taken a couple of small ew at Skuy (top 4) on Evelyn Stevens & Pauline Ferrand-Prevot, both in fine form.

Big Tony going for his 4th World ITT jersey today. Only Wiggins can possibly get close.
