I have only ever been to Donny once racing and i thought the place (for a group 1 track) was an absolute cesspit. Was in hospitality for a stag do and the quality of food/drink service was bang average. Never been back since and the card today for a classic is shocking. Anyone else got any views on the gaff?
It is amazing the course still has a classic when you compare its facilities and the surroundings themselves with York. Who the hell would choose to go to Donny over York for their respective big meetings?
Bang average would sum it up, cards always poor for a Grade one track. Business poor all week according to one of the books I spoke to today, in two good picks as well. It's run by Arena though, they don't seem to get much right.
In the early 70's the first big charity meeting was held at Doncaster, soon migrated to York where it's been a great success ever since.

Arenas business model is fine for most of their tracks. Uttox a prime example. I just don't think it works at a grade 1 track. It seems one size fits all for arena and it clearly doesn't

Nice to see some activity on the thread. I thought Night Colours in the 2.35 at Ffos Las was worth a look at 12-1, sire stats strong 2nd time out and profitable trainer/ jockey combo , plus trainer going thru a bit of a purple patch at the moment

Great shot that one. Missed it as was reffing our Fred’s under 8 game.
Been to donny at least 20 times it has the feel of a small track and I like going there.
Never going racing on a Saturday ever again and for a midweek meeting give me ripon, ponte or thirsk
Any day of the week.

Have you seen the replies? It doesn't really matter if you are 19 or 70, there can't have been many performances like this in one of the biggest group ones whilst I have been around either. Certainly not on fiirmish ground anyway?
Obvuiously Celtic Swing and Arazi are right up there, but neither of those really trained on, though Celtic Swing scraped home in the French Derby.
