Well, the Virgil Van Dijk saga is over.

All the pundits said he will leave, the bookies were convinced, the fans were convinced that we wouldn’t have the guts to force him to stay. This is a signal of intent and a victory for the second tier teams that we are no longer going to be walked all over by the supposed “elite”. With all the crazy money flying around, it is not all player power as has been proved.

What on earth do you do with him now though? This is a player that handed in a transfer request and was fined two weeks wages for refusing to play (£160k). A reminder of the statement:-

"I had very much hoped to retain the good relationship I’ve always enjoyed with everyone at the club, especially the fans, but unfortunately in light of everything that’s happened this has now been seriously affected, the time for me to move on is now and I hope to be able to work with the club to find the best resolution to suit all parties.”

It’s a pretty audacious thing to say when you look at it in the cold light of day. “The time for me to move is now”. LOL.

So we are left with a player who hasn’t played a competitive match since January. He hasn’t been around the first team training for many months and is obviously still going to be thoroughly peeved off. He has a world cup coming up this Summer though, is he really going to want to go on strike until January/next Summer. Saints have shown they aren’t going to be pushed around and he has another 4 years on his contract.

Interesting situation. I guess we see him make himself available for selection, issue a half apology and leave next Summer for £65 million.

For now, well done Les Reed and for the first time in a long time, finally HAHAHAHAHA Liverpool. Gl with Lovren.

moved this from TfT

Any love for Palace tonight at 3/1 away at Southampton?

A team on the up vs a team going in the other direction.

Good shout, Saints absolutely pathetic tonight.

next manager to go?

I would get rid now. I suspect they will wait until early Feb / as late as possible in the hope we pick up.

Players must shoulder some blame, this is the same group that finished 8th last year. Some of the performances this season have been woeful but we are just as tactically inept. We badly need players in January but if the system doesn't change then it won't matter.

Who is out there to come to the rescue? Would like to see water under the bridge with Koeman but no chance.

He is playing same formation and style as Puel last season and rotating just as much even though we have alot fewer game, Manager is out of his depth. We are 8th smallest odds for relegation we should be 3rd favourite with the current squad Yoshida doesnt have the quailty/consistently for the EPL Stephens looks like he could be a player but needs someone experienced to work with him Hoedt will be a good replacement for Fonte but now we need a replacement for VVD who can bring Stephens along, we have 3 good DM in Romeu Lemina and Hojbjerg but rotation means they can't build up that understanding. Our strikers can't score, Boufal is a show pony Tadic looks like he has given up. Forster has no confidence (playing behind a different back 4 ever game). Even with a new manager and 4 or 5 new players we are going to struggle.

One of the biggest games for Saints in the last few years tonight.

Not sure I can watch.

We don't win and the pressure is on. Beat Brighton and beat WBA at the weekend and pressure is off.

We lose tonight and manager will surely get the chop and parachute Silva in.

Ronald Koeman bought some cracking players while he was at So't'on, Mane and Van Dijk to name a couple - but almost exclusively overpriced damp squibs for Everton.

Why did a shrewd investor in the transfer market suddenly become a mug punterer overnight?
