Also the 1.8 billion Muslims thing is very misleading and in some ways quite insulting to muslims as though they are a teeming horde of suicide bombers. Even if this isn't what's meant it still doesn't mean much, It's like saying there are 5.4 billion non muslims - er whatevs.

The  UK muslim population is 2.7m

I think the numbers show that 700 have gone to Syria. So far as I can tell, there aren't many muslims over here committing atrocities - I mean actually none for quite a long time.

So, out of 2.7m there might be 750 radicalised enough to actually disrupt their settled and largely fulfilling lives over here to take action against us.

That really isn't very many and we've been bombing them for a year already - this shouldn't be the straw that breaks the camel's back

The reason Muslims from the UK haven't been radicalised in the numbers they have in other countries is that they've got a pretty decent life here.

Their life is worth living. Thety have jobs, money and a decent standard of living.

Compare that to Muslims living in Palestine, who are living with bombs rainging down on their heads almost daily, what have they got to live for?

The idea of paradise and as many virgins as they can shake a stick at must seem pretty bloody tempting.

Of course that's part of the reason and why it behoves us to do what we can to improve things for the poor, dissafected and persecuted. Many of the persecuted are Muslims and I'm sure they would appreciate our support - against assad, against the Saudi royal family, against Isis.  It's very complex and I'm just trying to point out that you can't talk about Muslim's as some homogenous entity or use the numbers as a rationale for why a tiny proportion cannot be defeated or massively suppressed and contained to a significant degree.

Of course you right. The vast, overwhelming majority of Muslims abhor ISIS as everyone else does.

And the situation is deeply complex and almost impossible to unravel.

But the more innocent Muslims die, the more will become sympathetic to the cause and susceptible to being radicalised.

I don't know where the 8m comes from but doesn't this mean instead of being terrified we should ensure 8 doesn't become 10 or 12. And I don't just mean by bombing them of course. Yr striking more fear into me than ISIL with yr doomsday thoughts

Sorry mate, the whole situation is more depressing to me than any conflict of my lifetime.

I guess if I had lived during the WW2 I would have been similarly pessimistic and probably anti war with the Nazis.

I would have been wrong then and maybe I am wrong now when I say they cannot be beaten.

Who knows how this will play out. I just hope there's a relatively quick resolution.

Yeah m8 i'm sure all the Muslims in Britain will start strapping on the suicide belts if the economy ever starts dipping again.

Comfortably the most bigoted and retarded statement i've ever read on blonde. You know clearly, clearly, clearly know little/nothing about Islam yet constantly make broad generalisations about a group like you're some sort of theological expert. Extremely tilting anyway but this statement went way too far.

Wow that was underwhelming. Suppose it was impossible for it to live up to all the praise I'd read of it.

Well constructed arguments and impassioned 7/10

Gordon Browns speech the night before the independence referendum was very strong imo

I was listening to the debate in the background for most of the day yesterday, I was leaning towards the yes before and was a definite yes after hearing all of the arguments.

wp John Bercow putting in a monster shift. I might have BBC Parliament on in the background more often, I played more hands yesterday than any other day this year so far!
