BNP were a left wing party stuffed full of racists.  Conservatives brought in gay marriage.

Right wing means small government and low intervention as the best way to benefit society as a whole.  Any prejudiced attitudes people may have are nothing to do with that core belief.

Your attempt to label all right wingers as prejudiced is ridiculous in the extreme. And you have the cheek to call the right wing narrow minded.

Yeah agree.  Don't see why politicians are expected to go to sporting events.  Prefer them to get on with their job.

You just know if he had gone he would have been accused of taking a "real fans" seat.

Some of the comments on Corbyn are justified but by printing utter worthless tripe like this they are in danger of being lost

I saw a very similar study that showed the exact opposite about a month ago.

Sounds like the Daily Mail have found a way to trick liberals into clicking on their stuff (Although I have a suspicion half their audience is angry liberals anyway wanting something to get mad at).

I don't really like clicking on anything that has the mail involved - but the summaries I've seen seem to suggest that the study was looking at liberal vs prejudiced rather than left vs right anyway (although obviously the summary could be misleading without seeing the data that was behind it).

'Right-wing' means 'prejudiced', doesn't it?

Maybe not on economic issues, but are there any social issues where the right-wing view is not based on prejudice or narrow-mindedness?

Utterly ridiculous post.

In that case, give me some examples........

A difficult part is defining what exactly is meant by left and right, but in terms of specific social ideas where they would differentiate I would have thought that education, crime and (in the US in particular) gun control would be obvious examples.

Another election in Greece today. When Syriza came to power, with a mandate from the Greek population to refuse the fiscal restrictions demanded by Europe, it seemed for a while that they could get somewhere. They seemed, at first, to be having some success in facing down the EU, but they were gradually beaten back to a position where they are now supporting the austerity measures and the Greek electorate has a choice between a conservative party which was always going to introduce them (and is partly responsible for the mess) and a formerly radical party, which is now going to do the same.

I can't decide whether I would still support Tsipras if I lived in Greece. I would certainly have voted for Syriza in the January election, to fight the excessively restrictive conditions being imposed from outside. Now, although he is almost a different person, is he still Greece's best chance or has he been incompetent and just made things worse by delaying the inevitable? Has he lost his credibility by agreeing to austerity reforms he formerly opposed? I think I would still support Syriza on the basis that I can't see a better option and at least they are more likely to stand against future increases in austerity.

Some reforms may be needed - there do seem to have been some things blatantly wrong with the Greek system, but beating a population into the ground is not right. Debt forgiveness, or restructuring at least, is the only way to get Greece back on track. It is surprising that there hasn't been more rioting, but it could come. Also, Europe should be concerned about the rise of the far-right Golden Dawn, which is set to overtake the socialists for third place.
