It's even more topical today than it was yesterday, so here is a link to the chapter on US methods and intentions in Syria, it really makes for palatable reading when you also have the live news on in the background....

It's weird I really cant tell if it is a parody. Not much account activity, mostly on politics, many normal retweets then just some bizarre stuff...

Yeah this is basically what I thought, doesn't quite look like a legit account, doesn't completely look like a troll account either.

I go two ways, he's either a complete and utter lemon or it's a very hard working troller who's trying to pass off as a non troll for as long as possible.

Still it may be inflammatory but he does have 'somewhat' of a point hidden in that tweet. In terms of who influences Western policy in the region, and how we inflame situations to suit our own economic benefit and then are unable to deal with the consequences he's pretty spot on.

edit note how Hollande has already 'declared war'. Marvellous, he just needs to now work out who we are at war with, how many more years will that take?

It's about timing isn't it. Lets hope he's not advising on diplomacy.

No doubt there have been monumental screw up's by so many Governments over foreign policy but the comments are bang out of order.

So because some U.S. diplomat thought Assad was a bad man, and a couple of million might have ended up in the hands of other baddies, then this proves US foreign policy was to being down Assad, cause regime change throughout the Middle east, by organising the Arab Spring, put the Islamists in charge and cause the attacks in Paris.  All seems a bit of a stretch to me.

He said "act of war" which is significant in terms of NATO.  The relevant counterparty is isis and co.

they didn't have a clue about the arab spring by all accounts. When you read what they are aiming to achieve 'ie overthrow rulers, gain political and economic power in regions to threaten Iran' yes it clearly means they have been a large factor in influencing this region which has to all intents and purposes gone to shit. They aimed to achieve this goal by funding extremists and arming them, the same extremists populaces are now attacking us, not the hardest cause and effect to spot. If that's not what you asked I don't understand.

so we mobilise world forces..... and where do we go? what do we fight? an ideology or dead suicide bombers?

Standing strong and together is important and matters, but all we've ever seen from these atrocities is reactionary politics where there is no oversight 'because everyone is scared' so just nods along.

We have had world wide internet/technological surveillance specifically to stop stuff like this, Boston etc etc  and all it does is reduce civil liberties, allow for massive power in the hands of a few corrupt people and in no way seem to make us safer. This event will just lead to more and more.

what other solution is there? i can't see one

it might be politically inpalatable particularly with the left but ultimately you have to destroy them at source, on the ground and through the air. will come at major cost and may take years, but i dont see another way

define them.

I cant tell if you are trying to troll, you don't normally so I'm confused.

Who would we fight? Muslims? Syrians? non whites? non americans? define 'the baddies'. What uniform do they wear?
