I don't think Brendan O'Neill is an economist or a former Corbyn advisor. Always been a journo and some would say he isn't left wing either

a sketch-writers dream

"Corbyn tries Trump tactic of saying anything that comes into his head

A wavering high pay policy and an opaque Brexit strategy signal simultaneous release of Corbyn 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0"

an interesting take

as much as it hurts picking a side, it will hurt much more not to pick a side etc

"Corbyn's immigration policy isn't a muddle. But it is an invitation to pretty much everybody to take Labour votes"

Corbyn’s problem is that Britain has already voted for radical change

Unless Trump's hookers were Diane Abbott and Emily Thornberry I doubt Labour are making the headlines today.

Would you support a maximum wage law in the UK?

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has again suggested he would like to see a maximum salary cap in the UK. Would you support this policy? And what level do you think maximum earnings should be?

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/jan/10/would-you-support-a-maximum-wage-law-in-the-uk?CMP=twt_gu

I would.  I think it's a good ideaa.

Surely taxing a big wage properly is a way better idea?  A huge proportion of our tax revenues cone from the rich.  Limitting wages, limits your tax take.

Love the way Corbyn is so out of touch he doesn't see that he is filthy rich himself.

No because the filthy rich don't pay the tax they are supposed to....

except - they pretty much do. A small proportion of the filthy rich don't pay the tax they're meant to - and a small (but larger) proportion could pay more tax if the system was re-arranged. But a huge proportion of our tax revenue does come from the rich whether you agree with the system or not.

And you can evidence this?

Over the years the numbers I have seen of people not paying what they should/could is phenomenal and it's not just the rich.

PAYE folk do but those who are self assessing don't pay near what they should.

The biggest item on nearly every tax gap analysis is VAT evasion in the shadow economy which is the everyday Joes.  The rich have their tax avoidance schemes which make the headlines due to the big numbers but in the greater scheme of things a huge cross section of people dodge tax.  The high earners always pay massive progressive chunks of any income tax analysis (as of course you'd expect).  When it comes to rich bashing on tax it tends to be baseless if you look at the facts.  Companies however.........

I only glanced at a headline but has there just been a headline about a report showing income inequality narrowing significantly?  Cracking timing for Corbo if that is the case!

Tax avoidance must have reduced massively in the last 12 months following the introduction of the GAAR, APN's, and imminent penalties for those who promote schemes?

Dunno if they has filtered through yet to the figures but it will have a big impact, especially penalties on promoters.

excoriating stuff

"This is painful to watch. Labour now dwells in a kind of limbo. Nothing can move forward until he goes, and he will only go in an electoral wipe out. This is the ultimate selfishness from someone who we are told by his groupies is some kind of saint. Labour can’t regenerate with him in charge and, indeed, Labour’s problems are far bigger than this one personality. He is now a bed-blocker – yes, this is a horrible, ageist metaphor – in terms of renewal. The merry band who preach with revolutionary zeal that we are on the verge of overthrowing the elites seem to be having some sort of flashback. In reality, people are joining the Lib Dems, Wales is no longer a heartland, the NHS is in meltdown. What there is left of the party when Corbyn is gone may not even be leftwing."
