The race to be the Democrat candidate in 2020 starts theoretically on 7 November, the day after the mid-terms, but it is, of course, already in full swing.

WaPo and CNN both recently published their current list of top candidates, ranked.

Washington Post
1. Bernie Sanders
2. Elizabeth Warren
3. Kamala Harris
4. Joe Biden
5. Cory Booker
6. Kirsten Gillibrand
7. Deval Patrick
8. Terry McAuliffe
9. Eric Holder
10. Michael Bloomberg
11. Chris Murphy
12. Andrew Cuomo
13. Sherrod Brown
14. Mitch Landrieu
15. Oprah Winfrey

CNN
1. Joe Biden
2. Elizabeth Warren
3. Kamala Harris
4. Kirsten Gillibrand
5. Bernie Sanders
6. Eric Holder
7. Steve Bullock
8. Cory Booker
9. Mitch Landrieu
10. Sherrod Brown

I would say you could divide the lists into three groups - Tier 1: Biden/Warren/Sanders  Tier 2: Booker/Harris/Gillibrand  Tier 3: the rest. The bottom halves of those lists are probably all names you have never heard of and I would suggest that you will never need to know about most of them, though we might run through them at some point.

The biggest surprise on the lists is the low ranking that CNN has given Cory Booker, who is one of the favourites with most, though I can’t see him getting over the line. If I had to choose the candidate now, I’d say it would be Kamala Harris, who ticks every box you can think of. For a longer shot, I’d say Andrew Cuomo could build momentum. Julian Castro would also be a strong candidate if he runs.

Of course, these lists can be very volatile, especially once the Primaries (which are only eighteen months away) get going, and we find the favourite one month dropping out the next month. And someone could come out of nowhere - both Bill Clinton and Barack Obama were virtually unknown to the general American public outside their State eighteen months before being elected President.

If Warren runs , which I think she will , then I am not so sure Bernie will run as it will split
the progressive vote and I remember seeing an article from the 2016 campaign where one
of Bernie Sanders colleagues had said that Bernie told him if Warren ran , in 2016 , then he
would not.

Warren is the one to take Trump on.

She understands why he got elected , is not considered as radical as Bernie and there looks
like , because of Trump , more people ( women especially ) are getting involved in politics again ,
ready to "fight" and "persist".

Trump continues to spout 4% GDP , economy booming , but it's not translating into higher wage
growth and 2 years down the line it could look a lot different if the trade and tariff wars continue.

Warren is the one populist who has the gravitas , name recognition and the money to compete
with Trump and HIS fake news.

Will be amazed if the Democrats stay in the centre ground and go for someone like Biden.
He is part of the "establishment " and as we have seen with Trump winning , it's time for change.

who is the oldest person ever to become President? Surely Sanders is too old to run now, right?

Previously, the oldest elected president was Ronald Reagan, who took the oath of office at the age of 69 in 1981. Donald Trump is 70 years old. Interestingly, had Hillary Clinton won election, she'd have been our second-oldest president-elect at the age of 69.

Sanders is already Tikay's age , 76

Marv. Still, better to be old, than grumpy, eh?

Grin Your spot on . Last week was a disaster , someone got 5 numbers on the Irish Lottery at 40,000-1

in 10p trebles four folds and acc. Plus Goodwood was a nightmare , two biggest bets took on football .
one team scored with 17secs to go and the other ( Sheep Shaggers ) scored with 20 secs to go.
Tilted off two buy ins at DTD for a £1000 loss on Friday night , was back in office by 8pm writing my
CV to guess who ........Bet365  , although it was more of a rant.
