The behatted Verndog invited me over for a chat and then proceeded to get nothing above a 6 for a thousand hands in a row.

He is clearly taking this seriously. No moves for the fans at all. Business only.

Stato is building a stack.

There are Norman conquest historians who haven't seen towers being built with such meticulous consistency. Impenetrable and indefatigable. Eat your heart out, Susie Dent.

Any particularly striking outfits or interesting hats in the room?

Spencer Oliver the boxer has doubled up. Ap layer to the side of him takes up the story

" e flopped two pair din'e. but the board got horrific din'it. Flushes, straights the lot"

He paused and i waited expectantly while Oliver sat shyly next to him

"so on the river like the guy bet all in and Spencer calls with with no flush and no straight an 'is two pair is good innit"

Spencer smiles

"it was either brull'yant or terrible, dunno which"

Spencer looks at me, with an icy glare. The thought that it was "terrible" seems to have strengthend his resolve

I'm not saying which one.

Running good obv, still in after 4 hours.

Apologies for the intermission. I was introduced to Jake Wood and decided it was only right to bore him senseless about Strictly. Apparently, he is in Eastenders, too. Probably some relative of Pete Beale.

I have been over to see table 31, which has Leo McLean (seat 1) and Jeff Kimber (4) at it. This should be worth a watch.

Button is in seat 6.

Folded to Jeff, who makes it 700, which is called by Brian Baker in seat 8.

Flop  three clubs

Jeff's C-bet of 900 wins the pot.

Entertaining start...

Button seat 7 (Chris Jones).

Leo McClean opens UTG to 700. Kimber calls (3betting pre is for young'uns), as does Jones on the button. Blinds take different amounts of time to fold.

McClean leads for 1,500, which is called by Kimber.

McClean barrels checks, as does Kimber.

How do you like your river cards, fellas? Spadey?

Check, check. Anticlimax, much?

McClean's  wins.

Button seat 8

Kimber in 4 opens to 700, which is called by Leo in the Big Blind. A passing valet shouts, "Who ordered the immediate redemption burger?"

check from Leo. Kimber's 1k is called.

Check again. He's up to something. Kimber wastes no time falling into his trap and bets 2,100. McClean folds.

This is why I am standing watching and not playing.

Button seat 9

Hayley Kirkham in Seat 6 calls. Seat 9 calls, too, as do both blinds.

 Two Clubs

Everybody checks.

And again.

Leo has had enough of this. 1,000 chips.

Kirkham calls and her A9 is enough to give her an adequate accompaniment to her tower of Skittles.

Isn't it good that Tighty's doing the updates again. Should come back for the Deep Stack. Although his mind is probably wandering to the King Power at the moment. In other news Greek Jack actually folded a Jack to a 4 bet. Not a pair of Jacks. A Jack.

Button seat 1

700 from Seat 9 wins the lot. We change dealers while I evade a valet with a full tray.

Button seat 2

Kirkham calls in 6. Brian Baker in seat 8 makes it 1,000. Called by Kimber in 4 and the initial raiser.

Check. Kirkham now thinks for a while, rubbing her middle finger on the felt back and forth. It looked like a check but it wasn't; she was just deep in thought. After 30 seconds or so, she reaches to her stack and bets 2k. This is called by Kimber.

Check check.

Check again from Kimber. 3k is too much, though, as he folds.

The blinds go up to 200/400/50 now, with seat 3 on the button.

Leo makes it 900 and wins the lot. Well, the blinds and antes anyway.
