Jose Fernandez perhaps the brightest star and most exciting prospect in baseball died in boating accident on Sunday, aged just 24.

http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/17632541/miami-marlins-ace-jose-fernandez-dies-boating-accident

One of those very rare sportsmen that no one (team mates, opposition, media, fans) had a bad word to say about.

Absolutely shattering news.

The look of absolute disbelief on Tulo's face that Jose could have caught that.

Just saw that Jack Bodell popped off this week.

Also Janet Reno.

You have to be a certain age to remember Bodell, but he beat Bugner and a few other big names. Also remembered for cutting off his toes with a lawn-mower. Don't expect many will remember Reno.

Leonard Cohen was a genius songwriter and great performer. I was lucky enough to see him at the Big Chill a few years ago. In fact both my kids can say they saw him although given my son was probably only about 2 at the time he may not remember too well.

I was watching with a friend who said he did not really know much his material, I just said wait you will recognise loads. As virtually each song started he went oh he wrote that one did he.

Aside from his albums there was a great tribute album years ago called I'm your Fan. It has cover versions by the likes of REM, House of Love etc just showcases how good his songs were.

I like this quote from his record company. He had just penned Hallelujah and they didn't quite get it.

"Look Mr Cohen, we know you're great, we just don't know if you're any good".

I bet they are glad they released it now!

Some of his lyrics are just brilliant

Tower of Song

Well my friends are gone and my hair is grey
I ache in the places where I used to play
And I'm crazy for love but I'm not coming on
I'm just paying my rent every day
Oh in the Tower of Song
I said to Hank Williams: how lonely does it get?
Hank Williams hasn't answered yet
But I hear him coughing all night long
A hundred floors above me
In the Tower of Song

I Can't Forget

I stumbled out of bed
I got ready for the struggle
I smoked a cigarette
And I tightened up my gut
I said this can't be me
Must be my double
And I can't forget, I can't forget
I can't forget but I don't remember what

And finally for all of us punching above our weight when it comes to our partners

Chelsea Hotel No 2

You told me again, you preferred handsome men.
But for me you would make an exception
