Pete Shelley of The Buzzcocks died of a heart attack this morning, aged 63.

Great band, with his very distinct vocals.  I was too young for their heyday but saw them live in the early 90s, surrounded by a load of 40 something blokes.

I'm now one of those 40-something blokes at gigs.

One of the bands of my youth, RIP

sorry about the first two seconds, but don't let that spoil a great tune.

Interesting choice, quite unbuzzocky really but a great song fronted by Steve Diggle during a Pete Shelley hiatus from the band. I met and had a chat with Steve Diggle in a fish and chip shop between Finchley Road and Swiss Cottage in 1980. Not a lot of people know that.

One of my all time fave bands - clever lyrics, more musicality than people generally remember punk as being but this was pre the Oi and more metal influenced punk bands of the early 80s (many of which I loved too)

When they said Pete Shelley died, age 63, I nearly cried for a few reasons

I am pretty shit at recognising people obviously, always was.

I didn't realise until tonight that Pete Shelley did one of the theme tunes to the Tour De France back in the day.

I almost put up Homosapien, loved that back in the day, never realised it had been banned at the time.  Probably not a buzzcocks song either, but very much a Pete Shelley one?

Pretty depressing all the bands dying off, they were all so young at the time, feeling my age tonight.

Did you have 6 music on tonight? Marc Riley was doing his parralel universe thing where he plays tunes from a certain year.  It was very much featuring the Buzzcocks and Pete Shelley, and then it finished and 6 music announced his death.  But the Parallel Universe section started before the death announcement.  It was a hell of a  coincidence if they didn't know.

Yep, definitely made me feel my age and also prompts a certain 'make the most of things' feeling. I need to do some more positive, good things with my life, gonna get started tomorrow.

I feel a bit left out this morning. I'm from the same era (roughly) as Sheriff & Doobs & am younger than booder or nirvana, but I never even knew Buzzcocks were a band, I only know the phrase "Buzzcocks" from the TV Show.

I went googling this morning & discovered how the TV show (allegedly) got it's name;

The title plays on the names of punk rock band Sex Pistols' Never Mind the Bollocks album, and the punk band Buzzcocks

A truly wonderful man in so many ways, who did so many good things most don't know about.

I can't recommend this book enough. Go buy it, you won't regret it.

RIP Norman Gimbel the Oscar- and Grammy-winning lyricist, has died at the age of 91.

He was best known for his work in film and television, writing the songs for popular shows such as Laverne & Shirley, Wonder Woman and HR Puffnstuff.

His work included the English lyrics to The Girl from Ipanema also the theme to TV series Happy Days. His most famous song is probably Killing Me Softly with his Song - recorded by Roberta Flack, the Fugees and others.

The Roberta Flack version will always be one of the most beautiful songs ever for me.

A few I didn't know about are on there.

Dr Hook and Barbara Streisand LP's were basically my Mum's playlist throughout my childhood, so I grew up with an in-depth knowledge of their music.

"Millionaire" was always my favourite, and leaves me in eternal hope of discovering a rich, old uncle.
