Missed this one; Florian Schneider died from cancer a few weeks ago.

Kraftwerk were the first band featured in the Guardian's listerner's digest series for lockdown a couple of months ago.

There is some good stuff in that series.

RIP the maximum man.  What a character he was in the golden era of snooker.  Remember the excitement as a kid going to play in his snooker club in Leicester for the first time.

RIP.

Lovely bloke, and even gave me a hiding at snooker when I was about 10 years old.

Remember when he did an exhibition at the old man's, he parked up outside the ladbrokes in the high street, and got all his bets on before coming up to the club to see the place before the evening Cheesy

By any standard, this one is a true icon.

Dame Vera Lynn passes away, aged 103.

In the middle of Coronavirus, "We'll Meet Again" has been a well-used phrase, most notably by the Queen.

Vera Lynn and the Queen would have been the last two people who would have been well known by British people during WW2 that were still alive.

Saddened to hear about Willie Thorne - 66 is really no age.

We never will be able to play that decider now - we played two games in 1974.

RIP

I did wonder Ralph if you had ever shared a frame with the great man being East Midlands based.

I did wonder Ralph if you had ever shared a frame with the great man being East Midlands based.

I was living in Toronto at that time and he came over for the inaugural CNE Canadian Open in 1974.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1974_Canadian_Open

I believe he had just recently turned pro. Cliff Thorburn(who I was pretty friendly with at the time) suggested that Willie give me 40-start and we played a couple of games for $50 a frame. He made a century in the first and won it easily, he was around 20-points ahead in the second when he laft me a half-ball cut on the yellow into the green pocket which I made and then cleaned up the rest of the colours from their spots to win on the black.

Willie must have thought Cliff had put him in a trap as he packed in after that - thankfully.

Sad to see news of Ian Holm's death today.  For many, he'll be remembered for his role in the Lord of the Rings films, but I think his performance as the sinister android, Ash, in the original Alien film is his most memorable one.

I've just been told by my friend who told me about Carlos Ruiz Zafón, the author of the Shadow of the Wind, that he had passed away.

He passed on the 19th June of colrectal cancer aged just 55 years old.

The best series of books I have ever read.

RIP Carlos, thank you so very much.
